UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Increase tax on the wealthy. There is room to manoeuvre, they just don't want to do that. Oh, and the triple lock needs to be killed, but they certainly won't have the stones for that.
Close down the tax havens, penalise countries that don't close down theirs, and charge tax on digital services at the location of sale to prevent every company extracting their profit through Ireland. And this is just from the top of my head.
This article is good, but only considers income tax as a revenue stream for the government. The reality is there are lots of avenues.
Corporation tax has dropped from 40% in 1980 to 19% today.
The blog post does address that point!
I agree, there's some room for manoeuvre, but there are no options with no downsides. Chaminda Jayanetti had a good thread of (left-leaning) suggestions over on BlueSky. And he agrees with you about the triple lock, too.
