Fediverse vs Disinformation

1650 readers
404 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Fox’s trumpaganda continues unabated? Huh. That sun thing. Still rising in the east, is it? Bit of a mystery, that.

It's not suggesting the opposite, it's just using a different definition of criminal.

When you say "criminal," you're referring to someone who has committed and/or been convicted of committing a crime. When Fox News uses the word, they mean people with skin that's more than 1.5 shades darker than Hulk Hogan's.

They pull the typical "ackschualllly" thing too and say "they're all criminals, they came here illegally!"

I think they've picked up enough legal residents to not take that at face value at this point. I have to presume they're all here legally until proven otherwise in court.

And that is why you're obviously an illegal. (All commies are illegals now)

Kinda depends. Having crossed the border without authorization? Criminal offense. BUT, it seems when one is caught in the act, that's only a civil offense. Overstaying your visa and the like? Civil offense.

Legal stuff from the ACLU. Take that with a grain of salt, seem like old data.

I wonder how they're going to spin produce prices this fall. Can't blame ICE raids, can't blame immigrants, can't blame climate change ...

You are underestimating their gymnastic ability to shove their head even deeper up their own ass. "Immigrants are eating our foods!" "Antifa is stealing foods straight off the farms!"

And the worst thing is that every single right winger will believe it 😩

Explqin why they can't?

I mean, only one of those wouod remotely make sense, but has tgat ever stopped it from working before

once again, that is the point. "only the bad ones" was never the goal. stop falling for cave entrance painted onto the sides of rocks

My immigrant wife was under the impression that they were only deporting "bad guys". I didn't want to scare the shit out of her, but I pointed out that over 70% have no criminal record, and some have been straight up citizens. White people too! The horror.
