I'll start: I tried to move a bookshelf while drunk about 6 years ago and tore a tendon in my shoulder pretty damn good. It still bothers me sometimes if I move it wrong or sleep on it wrong.

I fell off a walking path into a bunch of massive rocks Wile E Coyote style five minutes into sight seeing with my brother who I hadn’t seen in 10 years. I managed to hobble away with only a grade three sprain and some horrible bruising. It’s healed now but perpetually stiff. My new normal is walking down stairs like a 95 year old.

In 2017, on a snowy January day, I was supposed to go to the gym before work. When I got to the subway station, the service was interrupted. I thought "I could just take one hour to briskly walk to work, and not go to the gym".

But it was fresh snow and it was abundant, all the sidewalk were still covered. And I didn't have proper boots for a 1 hours+ brisk walk in the snow.

I got to work, changed, and started working. After 2 hours, I want to get up, but I immediately fall back on my chair.

I had hurt both my Achilles tendons at the ankle. My tendinitis in the right ankle healed well, but the one in the left ankle still hurts when I walk for too long. And sometimes just hurts because.

I feel you man

I literally laid down wrong night before last and my shoulder slid out again

Still hurts but not nearly as bad as it did right after

Accidentally kicked something while running out of a room. Busted my big toe pretty good and the toenail eventually fell off. Two years on and the toenail still hasn't grown back right. Doctor gave a medication for a fungal infection that sort of has helped, but I'm not so sure it's ever gonna go back to normal, it just looks like the toenail keeps regrowing over itself but never grows out fully. So it grows 90% of the way, then stops, and it keeps growing over or under it. Gross to look at.

Ruined my ACL playing bullrush in highschool, took over a decade to get properly diagnosed and fixed, still have some weakness.
Had a bulging disk in my lower back from lifting awkwardly shaped concrete slabs at work, aggravated it again by trying to move a desk on my own.
Done some sort of damage to my shoulder trying to cut a tree down with an axe while in an ADHD fueled gardening session.

My leg fell asleep and I got off the couch and tripped funny. Broke something in my left foot, it hurts every now and again. That's it, just a random oopsie from a guy in his 30s who is otherwise healthy, and a forever reminder of my shame.

Worst part, nobody believed me!

When I was a teen I put a disco ball in my room. One morning I woke up and I was yawning and stretching my arms out and at the end of the stretch I basically unknowingly back punched/slapped the disco ball.

I have a scar since that day on my hand that reminds me how quickly things can go bad in life.

Chipped off about a mm² of one of my front upper teeth while trying to eat my food fast and opening and closing my mouth fast. I did it faster than I pulled the fork out of my mouth and my teeth hit the fork..

I also was jumping on the couch and I fell on a table hitting my face between my eyebrows and now I have a scar there..

I've chipped part of my teeth at least twice bringing a bottle to my mouth. At this point I've accepted the sides of my front teeth will always look a bit messed up.

a friend of mine and myself were wrestling a bit in the front yard. i was probably in my early 20's. my thumb got caught in the collar of his t-shirt. we flipped around a bit and my thumb partially dislocated. i felt it start to pivot out of socket, and called for a stop. my friend immediately stopped and i was fine. it still aches to this day when i exert it. part of the issue is it's on my left hand and i use that thumb while doing things like playing guitar.

it's dumb but nothing else makes that joint really ache like that.

of all the ways i've been hurt over the years, it's stupid that that's the injury that gives me semi-on-going pain.

When I was a teenager we had a giant trampoline. One time I was jumping on it and I landed wrong and tweaked something in my back. From then on, If I twisted just right, I would have some sort of spasm in my lower back that would immediately put me on my knees. It used to happen fairly frequently but it's very rare anymore. I probably should have had it looked at but I didn't. I haven't been on a trampoline since. No need to aggravate that injury.

Was doing deliveries in college, considered the fastest one there. This was due to be actively running orders to houses / apartments.

Well, one such occasion I was coming back through a dark parking lot and thought I had another foot before the curb. Proceeded to land on the side of my ankle and roll to the ground. Figured it was fine (forgot adrenaline was a thing) so I got back to the car and drove to the store. Manager told me to go home lol.

Getting home, finally pulled off the shoes and socks and, boy oh boy, there was a softball in my ankle. University med clinic said it was just a severe sprain and to just keep off it.

To this day, 10 years on, my ankle is still slightly swollen. I can still run and walk on it though

When I still did karate we had these boards that were meant for kicking so they'd split. A training buddy and I were curious if they could be punched apart. I learned two things that day:

  • Yes
  • Knuckles don't like that

While it wasn't very painful at first beyond what I expected, it took me a few days to realize that the pain didn't really go away. Then I happened to bump my fist/knuckles into this aluminium plate at work by accident, and it felt like my knuckles were hit with a hammer. And I didn't even bump into it hard. This time the pain slowly went away over time until it one day was conpletely gone.

But to this day, 10 years later, if i accidentally bang my knuckles against something hard I notice very quickly that something isn't quite how it should be.

Drunk 18yo me thought dropping into the extension on the half pipe, and getting sweet air off the non extension, was a good idea. It was all going well until the way down. My shoulder hit the coping and popped out over the front. It looked so gnarly my friend fainted while waiting for the ambulance. Many years later I still feel it wanting to re dislocate whenever my arm is in certain positions.

Tried to open a can of ravioli in tomato sauce with a pair of pliars. Bad idea, 0/10, won't recommend. Still have the scar 30+ years later.

I fell off my entertainment unit, when I was too lazy to slide it out from the wall, to change a cable, and instead climbed up after working 7 days straight at a high impact job in extreme heat all week, I did a mild lose gravity, and landed hard on my knee. Doctor thinks I knocked my knee cap off, but it popped back in. Whole thing swelled twice the size. I probably should have gone to the er, but I just strapped it up and went back to work where my manager ridiculed me for such a huge bandage. The same manager I dragged myself into work for because I thought they'd be left stranded. I probably need surgery still, it doesn't hold my weight on a certain angle, but then I couldn't drive for a bit, and I don't know how I'd manage that with kids and such.

I came off my bike as a teenager and broke my funny bone! So it sticks out now and is easier to bump, and the weird tingly pain it causes if so much worse!

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Had an earing, one day it got caught on a net and ripped out with the stopper.

Never again.

[–] Kraiden@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Also drunk at an office do. Decided to ride a mates long board around the desks with tight corners and a polished wood floor. When the inevitable happened, I tried to catch myself and did something to my wrist. It's never been the same again, and even the remotest bit of strain leaves me in pain for days afterwards. Sometimes it'll just start aching randomly for no reason too. That was like 10 years ago now

[–] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Torn foot ligament just because I went too hard too early after winter of no exercise. Since then every year I have swollen foot at least once and am unable to walk for few weeks.
