I mean it seems like a dumb idea for Microsoft to block these apps, as they will just move to other platforms, and those other platforms will start to become more popular, which is bad for Microsoft. But good for the rest of the Internet.

Appears also recently a lemmy instance appeared for it. 50501.chat or something like that.

More like the discman. Or whatever they called those.

The Walkman played tapes. You could jump around and shake that thing almost as much as you wanted without disturbing the data it was reading from the tape. With discmen, they eventually added some kind of read-ahead buffer which allowed a certain amount of “shaking” for x period of time (like 30 seconds, 60 sendings) before it would disturb the data being read and your music would get all fucked up. I imagine this record player in a car would have very similar issues while driving.

I’ve seen a couple of other similar blocks posted here recently.

Seems like a really dumb idea for them, as it will just give more exposure to other platforms which they can’t gatekeep. But beneficial to everyone else on the internet I guess.

I hadn’t thought of this until reading the post I replied to, but that’s actually at least something you could attempt to defend somehow, rather than just flat out lying about number of sales which is what I was assuming all along.
