hmm unfortunately for this plan everything nuclear is a bit more difficult for the President to do willy nilly.

less dangerous but more funny would be for him to resign and let Harris be the 47th President. you know Trump and his cult have plowed millions into "47" merch that would suddenly become worthless to them.

(there are a lot of things that he can do that SCOTUS has preemptively granted him immunity for, though...)

This is an inaccurate claim by Sanders. Biden was the first President to walk a picket line with striking workers.

With union negotiations, he was pretty balanced. He did come down on the railroad strikes some after both sides got stuck, but they did get improvements beyond what management wanted to give. With the ports, though, he stuck with the workers and forced management to negotiate by refusing to override the strike.

Could the Democrats do more? Sure. But they're still recovering from the fever that took the party over with Clinton in '92. There are a lot of people who believe that win was a meaningful approval of the pro corporate but not racist Democratic Party platform, when in reality Clinton only won thanks to Perot.

I don't know that there was any magic messaging that Harris could've deployed this time around. I'm not sure there was any likely alternative even from a short post-Biden primary that could've done better than her.

Trump has everyone thinking he has some magic way to boost salaries and lower prices. And he railed against the elites more stridently and apparently people believed him.

On the other hand Google saw a lot of traffic with people asking if Biden dropped out so who knows what could have been done to avoid Trump 2.

considering how stridently the Republican Party has been attacking public education for the past 50 years or so, this is a predictable result. They don't need every American to be incurious and shallow, they just need enough to tilt elections in their favor.

I don't want to sick anyone too badly but it was Reagan who tricked them onto the path of evil.

(and Satan is a pretty decent cat, on balance)

I believe the VP only becomes "acting President" and doesn't assume the actual office until sworn in by a proper authority (usually the Chief Justice of SCOTUS but I believe contingency plans exist). So it would be interesting to figure out when the immunity attaches.

my point is that "if there's an obstruction, stop" means these cars are going to be stopping and requiring human intervention all the time. That's semi autonomous at best.

I don't know if you've encountered intransigent geese in your driving adventures, but the only way to deal with them is to slowly drive through the flock until they move out of your way.

fully autonomous cars are never going to happen without major changes to our roads. we'd be better off investing in more busses and trains.

[-] ristoril_zip@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

I realized self-driving on roads is impossible for so-called when someone pointed out what human drivers do when there's like a flock of geese camped out in the middle of the road.

We know that we should slowly move forward until they get out of the way, including bonking then with the car (gently). Do we want cars deciding that some obstruction in the road is "ok" to hit? I don't. So what's the solution? Something other than pure autonomous self driving.

We can probably have some very high level driver assist. Maybe.

then we should be fine as long as she also has a lead in final day voting and mail in voting and all the or kind of voting.

I'm not going to let anyone trick me into complacency like they did in 2016...

hey look buddy I've got some amazing advice for OP over here but I had another OP call me 10 minutes ago asking for the exact same advice so I'm gonna need you to make a decision right away.

I'm playing with the chargeable supervisory speaker and the damage increase on fire example Typhon is silly, but it got me thinking about all these niche 4* operators and wondering if stacking SP regen or attack speed might make some of them broken...

Obviously this would only apply to the Rim Zone but it seems like that's a permanent fixture now.

We only know about when humans mastered fire or started using metal. But we know the exact date when the first powered flight took place. What are some really early "first ____" we know the date of for sure?

I'm sure this will come if the wrong way but if you're genuinely concerned about discovering diversity of thought, you're going to have to tell us what your positions are for example.

I'm all for finding diversity, but so often what people who post these are looking for is an echo chamber. Like if you're really wanting to be challenged, and you're a conservative, go to https://socialistworker.org/ and read up.

But if what you're concerned about is the nerds in Lemmy seem to be left leaning, that's just the nature of smart creative people. We value skills and creativity over hierarchy and structure.

Ok when I heard about this I thought it was just going to be amusing, but seeing the actual commercial it's a fucking masterpiece.

It's so good there are almost certainly going to be MAGA fans who start accusing Greene of being a secret librul the whole time undermining Tangerine Palpatine.

Puzzle (lemmy.zip)

Is Puzzle basically a "better" Yato to have a 5* fast redeploy on levels where you can't bring Specialists?
