"“Ben & Jerry’s believes in human rights and advocates for peace, and we join with those around the world who denounce the genocide in Gaza,” the board said in a statement viewed by Reuters. “We stand with all who raise their voices against genocide in Gaza – from petition-signers to street marchers to those risking arrest.”"

from The Forward [Jewish publication from USA] Jay Michaelson May 28, 2025

"The gulf between Israel’s government and the rest of the world — including its allies, the #Trump administration, the Israeli public, and the American Jewish community — is widening into a chasm. And yet some in Jewish leadership are hiding their heads in the sand.

Critics of the Netanyahu-Smotrich regime are no longer just campus protesters, or hostile-to-Israel regimes, or antisemites like the murderer of two young Jews at an AJC event in Washington DC last week. They include former prime minister Ehud Olmert..."

"German Officials Might Be Criminally Liable": Five Questions to Kai Ambos (Verfassungsblog, 2025-05-30)

https://verfassungsblog.de/german-officials-might-be-criminally-liable/
———

>> Under the Arms Trade Treaty (#ATT), #Germany is prohibited from exporting weapons if there is an “overriding risk” that they could be used to commit international crimes…

>> … What matters is not whether the respective weapons are eventually used in war crimes or serious violations of international humanitarian law (IHL), but whether such an “overriding risk” existed at the time the export was approved…

>> In the case of the Occupied Palestinian Territory … such indicators have been present for years – and in the current Gaza war, they have intensified to the point that an “overriding risk” must clearly be assumed.

>> A failure to conduct or inadequately conduct the said risk assessment constitutes a violation of international law …

Germany has been one of the worst Western countries for whitewashing Israel’s genocide in Palestine. Now it wants to do it with AI.

AMMAN, 27 May 2025 – “In a 72-hour period this weekend, images from two horrific attacks provide yet more evidence of the unconscionable cost of this ruthless war on children in the Gaza Strip.

“On Friday, we saw videos of the bodies of burnt, dismembered children from the al-Najjar family being pulled from the rubble of their home in Khan Younis. Of 10 siblings under 12 years old, only one reportedly survived, with critical injuries.

“Since the end of the ceasefire on 18 March, 1,309 children have reportedly been killed and 3,738 injured.

In total, more than 50,000 children have reportedly been killed or injured since October 2023. How many more dead girls and boys will it take? What level of horror must be livestreamed before the international community fully steps up, uses its influence, and takes bold, decisive action to force the end of this ruthless killing of children?

Deporting prisoners is not enough for Israel, now they want to deport the widow of a #Prisoner who died in prison from cancer and medical neglect.

If This Is What Israel Does, Then Israel Shouldn't Exist (Caitlin’s Newsletter, 2025-05-29)

#CaitlinJohnstone as crisp and clear as could be:

>> … I’m saying a genocidal apartheid state should not exist. A state is an artificial construct of the human mind, held together by human actions. If the actions we are witnessing in Gaza are the product of the artificial construct of the Israeli state, then that artificial construct should be dismantled, and those actions should cease.

>> I would say this about any other man-made construct that is doing the things Israel is doing. If some scientists built a robot that spends all day every day massacring children, then I would say the robot should be unmade. If you drew a Star of David on the robot’s head, it wouldn’t suddenly make me an evil antisemite to say that the child-murdering robot should be dismantled.

Opinion - Soumaya Ghannoushi 29 May 2025 12:04 BST

"As Haaretz reported, Israeli youths marched through the Muslim Quarter chanting “Death to Arabs”, “Flatten Gaza” and “There’s no school in Gaza, there’s no children left”. Flagpoles were slammed against ancient doors, while marchers cursed the Prophet Muhammad and mocked the memory of Palestine.

Not a single person was arrested for incitement.

On Jerusalem Day, the law of incitement is effectively suspended. Hate becomes state-sanctioned. The slogans screamed are not cries against Hamas, but declarations of war on Arabs, on Muslims - on the very soul of the city."

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge said the Trump administration’s effort to deport Mahmoud Khalil because of his pro-Palestinian activism at Columbia University likely violates the Constitution.

In a lengthy order issued Wednesday, Judge Michael Farbiarz wrote the government’s primary justification for removing Khalil — that his beliefs may pose a threat to U.S. foreign policy — could open the door to vague and arbitrary enforcement.

“Hordes of hungry people broke into WFP’s al-Ghafari warehouse in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, in search of food supplies that were pre-positioned for distribution,” WFP said in a statement, which warned of “alarming and deteriorating conditions on the ground”.

“Humanitarian needs have spiralled out of control after 80 days of complete blockade of all food assistance and other aid into Gaza,” the statement said. “Gaza needs an immediate scale-up of food assistance. This is the only way to reassure people that they will not starve.”

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — With flies buzzing all around them, the woman and her daughter picked through the pile of garbage bags for scraps of food at the foot of a destroyed building in Gaza City. She found a small pile of cooked rice, a few scraps of bread, a box with some smears of white cheese still inside.

Islam Abu Taeima picked soggy bits from a piece of bread and put the dry part in her sack. She will take what she found back to the school where she and hundreds of other families live, boil it and serve it to her five children, she said.

At dawn on Wednesday, Israeli occupation forces carried out two new massacres in the central and northern Gaza Strip, while intensifying their bombardment of residential areas.

According to medical sources cited by Al-Jazeera, at least 14 Palestinians were killed in Israeli shelling across the northern and central parts of the enclave since midnight.

Al-Jazeera reported that eight people were killed and several others injured when Israeli airstrikes targeted the home of journalist Osama al-Arbid’s family in the Saftawi neighborhood in northern Gaza.

The Rising Death Toll of the U.S.–Israel Aid Distribution Plan in Gaza (The Intercept, 2025-05-28)

>> The humanitarian community worried the Israeli government would use the new aid plan as a weapon ... Some aid experts likened the zones to a “concentration camp” ... Some Israeli officials said they hoped the plan would permanently expel Palestinians from Gaza.

>> Such fears proved prescient Tuesday…

>> …Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor confirmed on Tuesday the death of seven individuals and said the 47 injured were wounded by bullets fired by both Israeli military and the U.S.-based private security firms... Israeli military soldiers had entered the site to fire on the crowd on Tuesday. And on Wednesday, … the Israeli military had sent texts to Palestinians instructing them to head south to the Morag Corridor area … to receive aid. When they arrived, soldiers once again fired on aid-seeking crowds, killing six,…

Sorry If This Is Antisemitic But I Think It's Wrong To Burn Children Alive (Caitlin Johnstone, 2025-05-28)

https://www.caitlinjohnst.one/p/sorry-if-this-is-antisemitic-but

>> Now that it’s been made clear that Israel’s goal in Gaza is the complete ethnic cleansing of all Palestinians, Israel apologists have been shifting from bleating about hostages and Hamas to arguing that ethnic cleansing is actually fine and good. Which makes sense; that’s really the only argument they can make at this point.

>> Gaza is such an easy moral issue to get right that there’s no way anyone who gets it wrong isn’t a shitty person in other areas of their life as well...

>> World Food Programme director Cindy McCain is saying that she’s seen no evidence of Hamas stealing aid entering Gaza. Israel’s one and only argument for continuing to block aid to Gaza is being publicly debunked by a member of one of the most pro-Israel families in US politics…

Jeremy Scahill, Sharif Abdel Kouddous, and Jawa Ahmad May 29, 2025

"A new proposal for a Gaza ceasefire spearheaded by Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, includes a 60-day initial truce, a “redeployment” of some Israeli occupation forces, and an exchange of captives, including ten living Israelis held in Gaza. It would also require the “immediate” delivery of humanitarian aid, including by the United Nations and the Red Crescent. Drop Site obtained a copy of the document, labelled a “term sheet” by Witkoff."
