Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

I'm always wanting to learn and I don't feel qualified to actually share tips, but here were a few things I wish I had known earlier:

  • when my mascara was drying out, I went too long before learning I could spray a little sterile saline on the brush (shaking off any excess drips of saline), and put the brush back into the bottle and work the brush a bit - then it would apply to the lashes perfectly without clumps (I've enjoyed mascaras like Mineral Fusion and Better Than Sex).
  • lash curlers are a life changer, I have long lashes but they're heavy and droop down, and I thought it was a mistake with how I was applying the mascara (and the mascara weighed them down even more!!); maybe this is just obvious, but I went too long without using one and they really lift my eyes, even just the curler without the mascara is a big help
  • foundation can really age you, so it's important to prioritize skin care and "natural beauty". It really sucks when my skin is breaking out and I have to cover up with foundation because it ruins the natural, soft look of my skin; I wash my face every night with a cleanser (occasionally using a more exfoliating salicylic acid cleanser on my nose) and use a night cream with ceramides. Hydrating throughout the day is also important to healthy skin. (As is diet, tbh.)
  • I had no idea that cosmetic sunscreens existed, I wish I had known there were sunscreens that didn't feel like covering my face in grease, I've gone without sunscreen for decades because I had no idea. Discovering Japanese and South Korean sunscreens that function as a makeup primer, and aren't greasy and absorb into the skin, completely blew my mind and made it so much easier for me to put sunscreen on every day. I have really enjoyed CANMAKE's Mermaid Skin Gel and SKIN1004's Madagascar Centella sunscreens in particular.

What beauty and makeup tips did you wish you knew earlier?

Hey friends. I've recently realized that what I thought were freckles is actually melasma, and my dermatologist has prescribed me tretinoin for it. I have very pale skin, generally normal in the winter and a little oilier in the T-zone during the summer, but it can dry out really badly with things like AHA. From what I've heard, tret is pretty drying. My dermatologist recommended that I start with applying it only two nights a week, and using a pea-sized amount mixed into my moisturizer. I use the Tatcha Water Cream moisturizer, which is pretty light and has been great for me, but with tret I'm wondering if I'll need a heavier moisturizer. I'm also worried that my usual double-cleansing will worsen the dryness from tret. I double-cleanse with an oil balm to remove my mineral sunblock, then with the Tatcha Rice Wash to get rid of the sunblock & oil balm residue. But I'm thinking the rice wash might be irritating because it's got a (mild) physical exfoliant, so maybe I need to find something else for my second cleanse?

Does anyone have any experiences to share about dryness on tret, or just starting tret in general? Anything I should be aware of? I'm weirdly nervous about it!

It lasts for 50 minutes so I can time my sessions with clients. Came all the way from Spain (I’m in the US). Super excited to start using it tomorrow.

So I have gained weight recently (like, way too much) and was feeling down because my job is so sedentary, I barely exercised.

But in the past two weeks that’s changed! I got a mini stepper for days when I just can’t get outside, got a wobble board for core workouts (that one is plain fun), and got ankle weights for walks.

Have done a 20-minute walk every day this past week. I’m already noticing more strength and stamina!

Going to keep this up and get FIT.

We all have different clothing brands we flock towards... what are yours and why?

I'm an alt girl, so I own most of the blouses hell bunny does. Recently my weight goes to my stomach so I've got really into dresses from disturbia and killstar. The quality is great, I can make them look pretty mainstream for a formal setting or alt them up for lunch with friends.

Knitwear I've recently discovered weird fish which has loads of great quality plain knitwear. All these brands wash well, and have frequent sales and discount days!

Hey y'all! Anyone have any tips for makeup choices that are pretty consistent offerings? Feels like every time I find something I like, it gets discontinued or shuffled into a new name / brand.

I have a pretty "no make-up" look, currently:

  • Primer
  • Foundation
  • Lipstick (mac discontinued my favorite color and is basically why I started this thread.)

Really mostly looking for brand recommendations here, emphasis on avoiding "fast fashion", if that's even the right term for it.

Hi! I'm newer to the Fediverse and brand new to Beehaw. I've used Reddit for years, but I'm seeking greener shores as big tech has gotten real weird.

When I'm not reading, attempting to be a guitarist or fooling with fountain pens, I like to paint my nails! Do I color in the lines? No. Do I do a perfect job? Also no. But I pick fun colors and always, always, always add glitter. Did you color your nails? I wanna see!

(Side bar, I low-key wish the Fediverse had more places for beauty inspo. Let's see pretty nails, hair and outfits, please!)
