lots of ways to improve them health-wise: freshly milled or whole wheat flour (or even incorporating other flours), protein powder, adding walnuts or peanutbutter ... but tbh a couple of small pancakes with some eggs, fruit, and maybe something like a sausage can make it a balanced meal - there's nothing wrong with carbs per-se, though I agree using a refined flour and then covering in syrup is not the best, lol
Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 mL) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp (5 mL) baking soda
- 1 tablespoon (15 mL) granulated white sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) yogurt, sour cream, or similar substitute
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) milk (or suitable substitute: cashew, oat, or pea milk are my favorites)
- 1 whole egg (or 1/4 cup, ~62 mL, of applesauce)
- 2 tablespoons (30 mL) vegetable oil
- 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
