Good shave. Nice mild scent for some likely crowded places I will be visiting today.

[-] spj_hook@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 11 months ago

I loved the concept behing Paganini's Violin, but I was a little disappointed in the scent itself.

Black Watch++;

I will be returning to Black WatchDays regularly in December. I'm trying not to repeat soaps this month.

[-] sahenders@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

I may have to join you for a few of those days. It's such a great scent.

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

It is a great scent. Certainly worth using regularly.

71^st^;

Predictable. I know.

Varesino Vednesday++;

I have 5 SV soaps and welcome an excuse to use them. VV could become a thing I mix with Black WatchDay.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

VV could become a thing I mix with Black WatchDay.

And Weinis Wednesday, Witchcrafts Wednesday,... 😅

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

And don't forget WestMan Wednesday 🙂

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

Sadly, I've never tried WestMan, and at this point, I try to avoid trying new soaps for about half a decade or so 😅

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

I try to avoid trying new soaps for about half a decade or so 😅

I understand completely! BBS November has made me feel good about using some of my soap inventory, though.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

Right?! BBS November is surprisingly satisfying

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

It is at that. And, as with all of these challenges, I've learned new things! I've found Varesino Vednesday, WestMan Wednesday, and later today I'll be celebrating Faena Friday.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

... Faena Friday.

If they're still around when I start trying new software, I'll try that, too 😅

November 15, 2023

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
  • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (5)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Soap
  • Post Shave: Spearhead - Seaforth! Heather - Toner
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Liniment

Enjoying this soap base very much. It has had a ring of death for a while now, and yesterday I reorganized the soap so it's flat on the bottom again which makes loading easier.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

This sounds like a wonderful combo! I'm copying it

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 11 months ago

It goes from dank (Varen) to fresh (Heather) back to dank (Cerberus). It was pretty good.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 11 months ago

Wait, Cerberus or Cerberus Fougère?

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago
[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 11 months ago

Calling it "dank" the me off 😅

Cerberus++;

I snagged the edp and splash yesterday ☺️

Intense Varesino Vednesday Vetiver edition

  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino Desert Vetiver
  • Aftershave: Saponificio Varesino Desert Vetiver
  • Fragrance: Terre d'Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver

This would be a great Austere August setup, I can't imagine how I'd tire of it.

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

I can’t imagine how I’d tire of it.

Nor can I. I like SV 70^th^ a lot, but I prefer Desert Vetiver. And, with this soap, "Austere" really doesn't apply.

Frio 15; Desert Vetiver++;

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

Mhmmmm...

Affluent August doesn't sound as good, though 😅

November 15, 2023: Witchcraft Wednesday

  • Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Thiers-Issard 188 7/8 'Coq et Renard'
  • Lather: Southern Witchcraft Autumn Ash
  • Post Shave: Floid The Genuine
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

After the 14.2, a comparison shave with the TI - which feels small and nimble. The shave was smoother than with the Koraat, and my face feels great.

It occurred to me that soap makers like Zingari or Le Père Lucien probably miss out on sales just because they happen not to start with a sound that forms an alliteration with some day of the week. I will probably try to correct this by doing some anti-alliteration action.

Have a good evening!

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 11 months ago

Lundi Lucien?

And anti alliterative action arguably assuages arbitrary abandonment.

A wetshaver trying to resist the urge to alliterate is just like a wetshaver trying to resist the urge for a new soap 😊

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 11 months ago

Must really resist repetitive retort...

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts with Declaration Grooming B10

  • Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 14 Full Hollow Square Point

  • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - Morado - Soap

  • Post Shave: Saponificio Varesino - Morado - Aftershave

  • Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner

I'm joining @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social in Varesino Vednesday. Yesterday I used SV Desert Vetiver and needed Morado SV today.

And today's shave was phenomenal! After using 70th Anniversary for 70 days this year, I have the SV Beta 4.3 vegetal base very dialed in, so my lather was just where I wanted it. The Morado fragrance, like others from SV, has its own very interesting character, and is extremely well blended. Totally enjoyable.

But the star of the show was the Frio 14; and I was surprised at how it stood out relative to my other 14-style razors. This razor has one of my packing-peanut-tested synthetic-stone edges that is overly refined with diamond emulsion on nanocloth, and micro-convexed with firehose linen and steerhide leather. This edge felt feather light on the skin and removed hair effortlessly [recall that the razor is 8/8"]. I used SV with my Filarmónica 14 (Jnat edge) yesterday and did not have the same reaction to that shave (which was excellent, but expected). Clearly, I need to do a side-by-side test.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

But the star of the show was the Frio 14;

It's as good a razor as any I have ever tried, and stainless, too. It might be the best razor ever. 😊

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

It might be the best razor ever.

No argument here.

  • Brush: Wald Stratos Haunter 29mm A1
  • Razor: Smart Helix Apollo (setting: 0.5mm Plate)
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (5)
  • Lather: WestMan Shaving - Alma - Soap
  • Post Shave: WestMan Shaving - Alma - Aftershave Balm
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

A WestMan Wednesday. This soap as a very nice base, and the scent (Red Roses, Passion Fruit, Passion Flower, Musk, Cedar, Oud) is killer. Even though I have way too many soaps already, I think I need more of this. Tiago recently released Nirvana. I mean ... how can I pass that up?!

[-] merikus@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago
  • Brush: Declaration Grooming B14 “Nebula” Badger
  • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
  • Blade: GEM PTFE (2)
  • Lather: House Of Mammoth - Santa Noir
  • Aftershave: House Of Mammoth - Santa Noir
  • Balm: Stirling Soap Co. - Unscented

Santa Noir is so wonderful. Can’t wait to pick up another puck as I’m most of the way through this one.
