Thank you for posting here!

[-] Blaze@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 6 months ago

Yeah, not the best place indeed

[-] Blaze@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 6 months ago

IIRC, Blaze (mod here) got banned under similar circumstances.

Hello,

That's indeed why I opened this community in the first place. For people interested, you can have a look at this post for the details (open the spoiler): https://lemmy.world/post/11446250

Just being able to see interesting job posts in my field and area

But if you would like to contribute to Fediverse project, I would say that the current link aggregator options would have more impact:

I mod enough communities to be honest, and people tend to have comments around how the content is interesting. Not the most polarizing community.

We can try like this for a bit, and if needed, I'll step in, but I would rather not

Nice graph!

By the way, any reason to share this here rather than !dataisbeautiful@lemmy.world, as you did for the Boeing one? Genuinely curious

tl;dr: !movies@lemm.ee is a complementary community mostly focused on discussions rather than news

Hello everyone,

As I did a few weeks ago to share the discussion thread about Dune: Part II, I just wanted to share again about !movies@lemm.ee.

Why another movie community?

There are a few movies communities on Lemmy, be it this one or !moviesandtv@lemm.ee. They are mostly focused on movies news, but don't have much discussion threads about current movies.

On top of that, as Lemmy doesn't have unique URLs for posts, there is no way to just have a megathread pinned with links to discussion threads, as those would only work for people on one instance.

Which is why !movies@lemm.ee was created. Our most successful thread so far was for Dune: Part II (direct link to the thread), and we hope to have other insightful discussions about movies in the future.

Some time ago someone expressed that one of the things they were missing from Reddit was being able to go to a discussion thread after having watch a movie to read other opinions on it, we are trying to fill that gap.

Have a good day.

Completely get what you feel. I had a look at your last posts, at least the good a few comments, that's something.

Sometimes it's even worse, you post then all you get back is negativity. I just posted on !mildlyinfuriating@lemmy.world, there are some comments which I just reported

I'm not gonna lie, sometimes it feels a bit lonely. I try to post on a few generic communities

Sometimes I can be the only poster for a few weeks. Makes me requestion the relevance of posting at all. I started posting to !pics@lemmy.world recently just because at least my posts are widely seen, and other people post there as well.

[-] Blaze@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 6 months ago

Definitely. I feel like every other week I stumble upon someone who doesn't know they can switch instances in literally 3 clicks.

[-] Blaze@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 6 months ago

Indeed.

Ideally, avoid the top three or five. That will naturally lead to a healthier balance.

That's probably good for Mastodon, but for Lemmy there isn't so much choice. My rule of thumb, in order is

  • lemm.ee
  • sh.itjust.works if you are ok with the name
  • discuss.tchncs.de or lemmy.ca depending if you are located in Europe or North America
  • lemmy.zip as they are good contenders, but a bit smaller than the others

Hello, good to see you here!

I completely get what you mean. Beehaw creates its own kind of situation. For a long time I was hoping they would refederate with SJW and LW, especially after 0.19.X where users could block instances on their own, but I guess that's never going to happen.

It's really a shame, because people and communities on Beehaw are really valuable
