Jerusalem (AFP) – Blowing foghorns and beating drums, thousands of Israelis on Wednesday took over the winding Jerusalem street outside the prime minister's residence to protest what they see as Benjamin Netanyahu's bid to weaken democracy.

"We've all been taken hostage by the government of blood," some chanted.

Others called for the long-serving Netanyahu to stand down, yelling: "You're the head, you're to blame for this catastrophe" [...]

Protesters say they have been moved to act by Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s “interfering” in politics and his role advising U.S. President Donald Trump, who has in recent weeks slapped steep tariffs on Canadian goods, sparking an ongoing trade war, and repeatedly suggested Canada would be better off as the 51st state.

Elon Musk is destroying our democracy, and he's using the fortune he built at Tesla to do it. We are taking action at Tesla to stop Musk's illegal coup.

⚡Sell your Teslas, dump your stock, join the picket lines.

⚡ We're tanking Tesla's stock price to stop Musk.

⚡Stopping Musk will help save lives and protect our democracy.

Protesters in Toronto are calling on an engineering firm to cancel its contract with the Ontario government to help remove some city bike lanes, alleging the removal will endanger cyclists and worsen the climate crisis.

Fridays for Future Toronto says in a social-media post that protesters demonstrated at Stantec Consulting offices Tuesday morning, and police say two people were arrested for trespassing.

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) — One after another, callers on a telephone town hall with U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga pressed the Michigan Republican about possible cuts to Social Security. Among them was a retired teacher and coach from West Michigan who said he and his wife, both with disabilities, have struggled to access their benefits.

Electric car buyers don’t like right-wing politics. This means Elon Musk’s position at Tesla is very vulnerable and susceptible to economic pressure.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — At least 100,000 people descended on Belgrade on Saturday for a mass rally seen as a culmination of months-long protests against Serbia’s populist President Aleksandar Vucic and his government.

Large crowds of flag-waving protesters clogged the downtown area of the capital despite occasional rain, with people hardly able to move and many stuck hundreds of meters away from the planned protest venue.

Thinking of what else someone like me (an older person) could do in order to prepare myself to support Ontario in emergencies. I came across Ontario Corps. Posting it here just in case it is something that interests you.

Summary

A nationwide strike has crippled air travel at 13 German airports, including Frankfurt and Munich, as trade union Verdi pushes for higher wages and better benefits for 2.5 million public sector workers.

The strike, following failed negotiations, led to over 1,000 flight cancellations at Frankfurt and complete shutdowns at Berlin and Hamburg airports, affecting around 510,000 passengers.

More strikes targeting public sector facilities are expected this week, with the next wage talks scheduled for Friday in Potsdam.

Summary

Karen Ortiz, an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) administrative judge, defied Trump administration policies limiting LGBTQ+ protections by urging colleagues to resist “illegal mandates.”

After sending a mass email criticizing leadership, her email was deleted, and she faced disciplinary action.

Ortiz's stand gained widespread online support but little public backing from colleagues, who fear retaliation. Experts say federal employees often stay silent to protect their jobs.

Ortiz, prepared for potential fallout, sees her actions as protected whistleblower activity and remains committed to civil rights advocacy, regardless of her job security.

At 83 years old, Sanders is not running for president again. But the stooped and silver-haired democratic socialist has emerged as a leader of the resistance to Donald Trump’s second presidency. In tearing into Trump’s seizure of power and warning about the consequences of firing tens of thousands of government workers, Sanders is bucking the wishes of those who want Democrats to focus on the price of eggs or “roll over and play dead.”

“We’re asking people to divest from Target because they have turned their back on our community,” Rev. Jamal Bryant, a prominent Atlanta-area megachurch pastor who started the boycott, said in an interview with CNN.

On January 24, days into Donald Trump’s presidency, Target announced it was eliminating hiring goals for minority employees, ending an executive committee focused on racial justice and making other changes to its diversity initiatives.
