Mere days after photos of a 35x35 surfaced, Preston Alden has unveiled a 49x49:

It weighs 30 kg, stands 34 cm tall, and consists of 13,827 pieces. Every piece of the cube was 3D printed using PETG plastic (aside from the bolts and springs).

Congratulations to Preston on such an incredible achievement. I've never seen olzing on such a large puzzle!

A few photos and videos have surfaced of what appears to be a 35x35 Rubik's cube.

Tony Fisher has posted a video with some commentary and early speculation on its legitimacy. He also notes that the puzzle appears to have been spray-painted (rather than dyed or stickered) as evidenced by the over-spray between the yellow and blue faces.

Yusheng Du (yes, that Yusheng Du) has posted a video of two dudes lifting it.

David Marcos Mazón has reposted a stop-motion video from an undisclosed source, which implies that the puzzle turns on at least one axis.

As far as I know, no videos of the puzzle being turned have been released.

Further discussion on the twistypuzzles forum.

This 35x35 comes less than 3 months after Matt Bahner presented his 34x34. Given the time it takes to design and build a puzzle of this scale, I think it seems likely that the puzzles were constructed concurrently.

Finally, UnCube has solve-synchronization. This feature has been a long time coming, but I've been taking a break from development on this app.

For the time being, at least, I'm back.

Some things to look forward to:

Statistics are coming. Soon users of the app will be able to view and export their solve statistics. (Open to suggestions as to the format of the exports)

Help wanted

If you are a graphical designer (and are willing to work for free), UnCube needs an icon/logo. See the GitHub Issue on this for more information. If anything is unclear, you can post a comment there asking for more information.

Hello everyboby :)

I'm new in this community. Happy to join you.

Today, I received a MoYu WRM V10 Ball-core MagLev UV instead of a MoYu RS3M V5 Ball-Core MagLev UV + robot.
If you know both:

What are the differences between these cubes?
Do you think I should keep the RS3M or not?

I only have few days to make a choice. Can you help me to make it please?

It's also a tie with Sebastiano Tronto's 16 moves, back in 2019.

I'm starting out with a cheap Mo Fang Ge brand cube but it's pretty stiff for my taste. I saw some videos about speedcubes and how you can adjust them and all that, thought it was neat. What are some good cubes out there? I would want to avoid any Chinese brand cubes if possible because cheap and Chinese probably means their workers aren't fairly compensated.

Edit: after much research, I don't think a non-chinese brand cube will be possible. So I guess recommend me whatever the best options are. From the $10-20 range would be a good price for me.

Fastest was 4:17. I'm trying to match it

Learned how to do it w/ video yesterday using jperm's 10 min tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ron6MN45LY

Edit: I'll post my cube tmr if someone reminds me.

I wanted to try a stronger magnetic cube (main is currently Tengyun v1). QiYi M Pro has a ~10$ ballcore UV, so it went onto the cart. The turning feeling is really close to my tengyun, so I like it.

Master pyraminx isn’t too much of a hassle, pretty straightforward with pyraminx algs.

I haven’t scrambled the rua yet, but it’s very stiff.

Matt Bahner has (cheekily but impressively) beaten Grégoire Pfennig's 33x33 record by just one layer.

The puzzle itself is cool, but I actually found the explanations of the mechanism design and 3D printing techniques more interesting.

He seems to have used a linear mechanism, similar to Oskar's floating anchors approach, but without the floating anchors. My guess is that the ball shape eliminated most of the twisting forces on the pieces which necessitated the floating anchors in Oskar's design.

Flattening off small areas of the pieces to allow them to be printed in an orientation which doesn't require support bothered me a bit, but I can understand why he did it. Support material can be a pain in the ass.

I've had a 3x3x3 for a few years and so far, I solve it with the beginner method. I watched a J Perm video on the F2L approach and now I'm trying to learn to do that faster. At the moment, I'm still faster going one layer at a time.

If you also started with the beginner method and then learned to use F2L, how long did it take for you to get faster with F2L?

Like I said in another recent post, I'm not looking for a WR. I just want to be as fast as my kid at this point. She learned F2L from the start. :)

My new cubes (i.imgflip.com)

Hey y'all - anyone still here? :)

I do cubing just for fun - no world records here, eh? These are my three newest cubes:

  • 4x4x4 - I can't remember which one exactly, but it's a lot of fun to solve. Not magnetic

  • Megaminx - YJ YuHu V2 Megaminx Magnetic

  • 1x1x1 - 1x1 Speed Cube - Black

The megaminx is messing with my head but I will keep at it. Any tips would be appreciated.

That 1x1 man, I'm leaving saving that for last, eh. :)
