I thought I’d create a post where we can discuss our theories! Here’s mine…

I think when she met with the law firm to convince them to send Janette the cease and desist letter she also got advice on how to shut down her rapidly growing snark page. She knows that the two are interconnected and Janette is getting most of her information from Reddit snarkers/former “fans”. This TERRIFIES her as she knows the truth will eventually come out.

I don’t think Knix or SI had anything to do with it, nor do I think Reddit cares about a nobody from Canada. I think she either 1. Reported based on a (likely exaggerated) violation that she knew Reddit would take seriously or 2. Had her cronies overwhelm the reporting system in a short amount of time. I think the latter is more likely, or at least in combination with 1.

I also don’t think the fact that Reddit is rapidly removing similar subs is related. I think they have tagged keywords that lead to subs automatically being removed, or can somehow see when former sub members congregate elsewhere (even completely private subs are being removed). For this reason I think we need to be careful when commenting about TBP on other influencer snark subs.

Thoughts? I probably didn’t share anything new here but ranged to get it out! Regardless of what happens, SNL will not win as the cat is already out of the bag and it’s the only reason she’s doubling down so hard.

I agree with the theory that it was reported for violations and her friends reported it also.

I’m also really sus about the dude here on Lenny who flagged us immediately as soon as our group appeared. I think there’s a mole among us. Maybe a lurker. Idanno.

Not sure how I feel about brands being involved. I’d like to believe free speech still exists but you never know.

The new sub that was shut down within hours broke a Reddit rule so that’s that. But the original ban, I tend to agree with you.

I’m so pissed about the whole thing.

If I may, Lemmy tends to be pretty quiet (the site is much smaller than Reddit, 50k active users monthly total), so that's why new communities with activity such as yours tend to be spotted quite fast

Thanks for that insight. Appreciate it :)

Thank you for welcoming us thus far. :)

let me be a devil advocate, as someone that's here since a year ago

lemmy is small, too small, we had trolls attacking us since the start, DDos attacks, even fucking CP material, we have a lot of problematic instances full of trolls too(that lemmy.ca is disconnected thanksfully) so yeah, we are afraid of a bunch of people coming suddenly and making problems, maybe a bit to much afraid, but lemmy.ca admins aren't going to suddenly delete you all, at least i never heard of something like that happening, so just keep it civil, i'm not an admin btw, and welcome!

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 5 points 3 months ago

but lemmy.ca admins aren’t going to suddenly delete you all, at least i never heard of something like that happening

The lemmy.ca confirmed already that the community was okay (as long as they respected the instances rules, of course): https://lemmy.ca/comment/9620650

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi, I'm the one who made the post in the main community about you guys. Just so you're aware, lemmy.ca is a small instance which is part of the larger (but still small) Lemmy network.

Every post you make goes to the Local feed (like r/all but just lemmy.ca) and that is how I noticed you. Everyone on .ca is seeing every one of your posts assuming they scroll Local, and some of your posts are even on All (all of Lemmy), just a few pages down.

So no, there's no conspiracy or anyone spying on you.

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

Mmmkay. Thanks. I still think it’s odd that you labeled us as a group who “harasses” an influencer

[-] gila@lemm.ee 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Well, y'all are here for a specific reason. Reddit banned your subreddit. But the raison d'être for Lemmy isn't really to be a refuge for banned subreddits. Surely you can imagine what a toxic place that'd be? The people that were here already, were here because they chose to be. Because we prefer it over Reddit.

It isn't necessarily a problem - this platform makes it quite easy to block what you don't want to see, and its decentralised nature inherently affords freedom to discuss anything. It's just odd as far as Lemmy communities go. I have no idea who TBP is, I just found this post because I browse 'all'. You might be welcomed more if there was some sort of pinned post explaining who this person is and basic reasons why they deserve a snark community, so the rest of us aren't missing the context required to participate.

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I think there is info about the group. Maybe it’s sidebar instead of pinned.

There is just as much whining and negativity on lemmy as there is anywhere. And actually most people have been very cool to the group and I know we appreciate it. But to immediately flag it as harassment? How was that even known? It wasn’t mentioned at that early point? I’m not gonna beat a dead horse.

TBP is an influencer who propagates harmful content and the Reddit group was the main source for a journalist who is working on a dort of expose of her. We aren’t just a bunch of cunty whiners. We feel strongly about her dishonesty and want her held accountable. That’s really all.

It’s fine. I’m fine. Everything is fine.

Very true

And actually most people have been very cool to the group and I know we appreciate it.

We try to be welcoming too. But as always, you'll have people who categorize others very fast.

I guess it's more that this community is very outside of the usual communities on the platform, some people might not know about this phenomenon. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Lemmy users do not have Instagram or Tiktok accounts.

To be honest, it's refreshing to have your community, thank you for that.

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

Well we really appreciate your interest and support! 🩷

[-] Anniemarieglobal@lemmy.ca -5 points 3 months ago

“Journalist” lmfao. Get a grip. She’s a lifestyle reporter at best. Jan’s greatest grift is convincing a bunch of Redditors she’s a “investigative journalist”.

[-] Meepmeep@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

This is actually a fantastic point and I think getting a summary up is a good idea

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago

Your POV makes sense - you don’t want someone moving into the neighbourhood and causing trouble. We’re a nice group of people who have a common goal. We keep things civil.

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 3 points 3 months ago

I got most of the info form the pinned post and the sidebar, but I guess now the pinned post if quite long.

Also, the lemmy.ca admins keep an eye on this community, so it should be fine

[-] markpaskal@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

You post pictures of her she obviously doesn't want online and every post is something negative about her. I'm just calling them as I see them.

[-] QueenofTudor@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 months ago

With all due respect, the influencer posts photos into the public realm and we are reposting them without any alteration and making no claims that we are sourcing them from anywhere other than her Instagram. If anything, this benefits SNL because she makes money off the views.

We are a group of concerned consumers who are having public discourse over an internet influencer who is scamming her followers by posting filtered photos and by denying her obvious physical enhancements such as lip fillers and passing it off as natural and unfiltered. She also sells products on her platform that she does not disclose are sponsored content and that she makes kickbacks from the sales. In Canada, this is illegal under the Competition Act. She has also been caught plagiarizing BIPOC creator and has never addressed this, nor apologized for it, and she certainly has not compensated the BIPOC creators foe the “borrowed” content, either. She also exploits her 3 yr old for content, which is extremely concerning because the child cannot legally give consent for their image and likeness to be used for commercial gain. She also posts so much private information about her children that we know where they work, live, go to school and take part in their hobbies. This is extremely concerning from a safety perspective.

So before reporting this group, maybe have a conversation with us first. The gross majority of us are sane, rational and well-educated humans who want to hold this influencer (and others like her) accountable for their actions. We are frustrated because attempts to have these conversations in public forums have been shut down and we have been silenced for inane reasons, yet no one is taking the issues we bring up, seriously.

[-] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

Incorrect. The pictures we post are pictures SHE posted. Pictures that use skinny filters which she denies using. We have never harassed her. No one is saying mean things to her. We are talking to each other about her hypocrisy.

[-] Blaze@reddthat.com 3 points 3 months ago

I have been following the community for a few days and this is indeed pictures she posted herself.

[-] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

Thanks for having our backs, Blaze. This comment sounds so much like the ones posted by this Infliencers’ friends it’s eeie. Her SO is the IT realm so my spidey senses are tingling

[-] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

You’re straight up lying. What do you think people are hiding in the bushes outside her house and following her around the city to take pictures? Everything comes from her own social media posts. Nice try though 👌

Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!
