This is rhetoric to start labeling LGBTQ individuals as sexual predators that are harmful to children.

Wow what a coincidence, Florida just passed a law that allows the death penalty for sexual predators against children.

It's enraging because I'm sure if you asked them if child marriage should be illegal in this country, they'd probably say no. What happens for all those adults who marry 17 year olds legally in Florida? Should they be given the death penalty?

Also fyi many times child spouses can't divorce, and once married they become a ward of their adult spouse, not their parents. Imagine how fucked up that is. There is no lower limit to child marriage in 4 US states. Statutory rape laws in most states make exceptions for spouses, even if one spouse is a minor and one is an adult.

According to Reiss, there’s “almost no opposition from the public” when anti-child marriage legislation comes to the table. Where Reiss does see pushback is from smaller fundamentalist groups that focus on “religious freedom” and “parents’ rights.”

Aka Warren Jeffries types of predators. Fuck these people with their faux concern for their victims. Bunch of shitbags
