That is why I am asking for clarification around rule 1. I am sure many people would be glad to comply and start communities on other instances because of local laws and such.
It's an extremely vague rule, is what my point is.

I am all for Admin prerogative and yes, I am joined to other instances and other communities on those instances.
Honestly, this is probably the last time I am going to bitch about this action. However, with lemmy.world being one of the main hubs for lemmy right now, clearer rules should be defined. This admin action was just distasteful and will absolutely not make this instance appealing.
Once the service stops using Twitter, it could be considered a full "switch" I suppose.
I think there should be an option (unless there is) for mods to turn off (or hide) voting as needed. That might be an effective way to cancel any downvote brigades. Lemmy really doesn't have the population for mass vote manipulation now, but it will soon enough.
Hiding all votes can also help mitigate some superficial bias, but not all. I believe that if a person sees a comment with a few dozen downvotes first, they tend not to read the post objectively. After being on Reddit for such a long time (12 years or so), I found that it was super easy to manipulate voting trends if I caught a post or comment at just the right time.
Hiding only downvotes is just silly though. Some register of public opinion, positive or negative, still has its uses, IMHO.
I feel the same.
If I ever get a Tesla, which I won't, it would get hacked to shreds. I am not a fan of getting something sold to me that I already purchased.
Well, it's the gays or atheists. Or "colored" people. Or whoever they are told to hate at that moment. This happens more than you know in this day and age:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Marketing can be done by anyone. :) All it takes is a little passion and excitement when telling someone else about something you enjoy.
Professional marketers can bring lots of skills to the table but nothing beats a good old fashioned testimonial.
Fuck spez.
There. Just had to get that last drop out. ;)
That is why I fell in love with shrooms, TBH. Psilocybin has resurrected a curiosity in me that I haven't felt in years. I just seemed that at 40 years, there aren't many situations that I haven't seen or experienced in daily life. As a side benefit, I have learned how to grow mushrooms.
Edit: haven't
I am sad about RIF. It blocked all the ads, didn't show all the shitty awards, was super clean, the video player worked well and the mod tools were awesome.
On a side note, its sad demise led me to Lemmy, so all is well.
It absolutely is not the correct response. LTT and GN are very public and the suggestion to take the conversation private is bad. There is no backroom conversation that can "fix" shitty data.
I agree with Linus taking accountability for publishing bad test results. That is a good thing. Talking shit about GN and refusing to walk back on that is bad. That is unprofessional.
