CPCEC is an emulator of the family of home microcomputers Amstrad CPC (models 464, 664, 6128 and Plus) whose goal is to be loyal to the original hardware and efficient in standard modern systems. Thus it brings a faithful emulation of the Z80 microprocessor and it replicates the behavior of the CRTC 6845 and Gate Array video chips, the PSG AY-3-8912 sound chip, the remaining circuits found in the original hardware, and the tape deck and floppy disc drive that made possible loading and running software.

CPCEC includes several related projects. ZXSEC is an emulator of the Sinclair Spectrum family (48K, 128K, +2/Plus2 and +3/Plus3) based on the components it shared with the Amstrad CPC family: the Z80 microprocessor, the PSG AY-3-8192 sound chip, the tape system and the NEC765 disc drive controller; CSFEC is an emulator of the Commodore 64 platform, similarly based on shared code; and MSXEC is an emulator of the MSX family (1983 MSX, 1985 MSX2, 1988 MSX2+), also based on shared code.

From the announcement post:

12 of Retro Classix games (titles developed by Data East and re-published by Ziggurat Interactive) are going to be delisted on April 30th, 2024. The silver lining here is that each of them are discounted -50% until the time of the delisting – here's a link to find them all: https://www.gog.com/promo/retro_classix

And here's a list of the titles:

BAD DUDES VS DRAGONNINJA
Break Thru
Express Raider
Gate of Doom
Heavy Barrel
Joe and Mac: Caveman Ninja
Joe and Mac Returns
Night Slashers
Super Real Darwin
Super Burger Time
Two Crude Dudes
Wizard Fire

Also, all games are sold as emulated arcade titles.

iGBA was a copycat version of developer Riley Testut's open-source GBA4iOS app, with the addition of ads on top. While it did not explicitly name GBA4iOS, Apple told us it removed iGBA from the App Store after learning that it was a knockoff app that copied another developer's work and attempted to pass it off as its own.

Notably, Apple confirmed to us that emulators on the App Store are permitted to load ROMs downloaded from the web, so long as the app is emulating retro console games only. Apple also said it had approved iGBA's functionality, before learning that it was a knockoff app, suggesting that Game Boy emulation is permitted on the App Store, but the company has yet to share any other examples of retro game consoles.

All in all, it appears that iGBA was removed from the App Store entirely because it was a ripoff of GBA4iOS, rather than due to piracy concerns resulting from users being able to load any ROM downloaded from the web. However, exactly which consoles Apple considers to be retro, and if there will be any other restrictions, remains to be seen.

A video game ROM collection manager to help filter, sort, patch, archive, and report on collections on any OS.

Release Highlights
Fix: parent/clone inference with game "alternates"

@MrNoOneRed found that the GoodTools-style [a] and [a#] tags were not getting grouped into parent/clones with TOSEC DATs. This has been fixed.
Checksum cache updates

Feature: checksums of non-archives are now cached.

This is most helpful when copying or moving large files such as ISOs, or when calculating MD5/SHA1/SHA256 hashes.

Fix: test for cache write permissions.

Previously, igir would write its cache file to ./igir.cache. But it can't be assumed that this file path is writable, as reported by @TheBrainScrambler on NixOS. So now igir will fall back to writing the cache file to ~/igir.cache.

##$ Token updates

Feature: new {romm} token.

@maxexcloo has added support for RomM, a web UI to help visualize ROM collections. As of writing, RomM does not have any mass ROM sorting functionality, so igir is a great choice to help organize RomM collections.

Feature: added "cracked" game type.

A new "cracked" game type has been added that will affect the {gameType} output token. Games considered "cracked" have had some copy protection removed, and by definition are not retail, so they will also be excluded by the --only-retail option. Thank you @MrNoOneRed for the feature suggestion!

Fix: "Famicom" and "Super Famicom" DATs.

"Nintendo Entertainment System" and "Super Nintendo Entertainment System" have been supported for a long time, but @kerobaros pointed out that "Famicom" and "Super Famicom" were not. This has been fixed.
