No Stupid Questions

Given that someone got domestic terrorism charges for saying "Deny, Defend, Depose", do you think it would be a bad idea for me to carry a sign at a peaceful protest that says "Deny Musk, Defund Doge, Depose Trump"?

For context, this protest is in a moderately upscale suburb of DC with a particularly liberal (not leftist, liberal) population base. The protest has been happening every Saturday for several weeks now, and usually pulls around 200-300 people. There is usually a police presence, but they have not gotten confrontational in the past. They've only warned people to not block entrance to the dealership, but have otherwise left us alone.

As title suggested. For context & as an example... there was something I wanted to investigate today, but the only primary information was from a 2023 Twitter (yup, before it became X) thread. The annoying part is that the crucial tweets got labelled as "sensitive content" so it's not even available on Wayback Machine

A conversation with a senior physician triggered this question. He's been 35 years on the job and recently wrote me a letter of recommendation.

I'm changing wards due to drama and a manager who only wants gossip, dumbed down nurses at her unit.

This is a physician I've only talked to like 5 times in the 18 months I've been working at my old ward, somebody every other nurse at the unit told me to leave alone, because he's a senior physician (yes, that was the reason).

My former manager put a bare C on my performance review, something I didn't sign, so I asked this doctor to write a short text numbering my duties and what I can do to show my new ward but he wrote a full fledged letter of recommendation instead.

What the doctor told me while signing it: you're good at informing patients and take the extra step sensing what analysis they need, I've never had a nurse with so much positive feedback from so many patients, you're never gonna be a good fit here because the manager is a gossip and she controls the unit and you don't talk much, if you ever want to work PACU, tell me as I know the senior doctor there. Keep doing what you do, you'll find a good fit eventually.

I've already used downtime to read and learn, but nursing being gossipy and catty, all I achieved was being accused of being lazy, unfriendly, neglecting patients and a conversation with mentioned gossip manager, because she always believed her friends over me. She never asked me for my side of the story, but accused me directly.

Back to the doctor's conversation: keep doing what I do means reading and learning during downtime at the workplace: first thing I want to do at my new unit is showing them the letter of recommendation and explaining I want to learn and I learn better alone, when I read.

I also want to tell them I'm not a talkative person (meaning I don't care about drama or gossip), but I really don't know how a group of mostly women who don't know me can react to that.

I'm shocked that I haven't seen one protest yet. Is the media suppressing them? If there aren't any, why?

You're only able to choose two options, how is that democracy? I thought democracy was about being able to choose anyone you think is suitable to be a leader, not one of two pre-selected people. At that point, it's not much different to a one-party system, just with two people rather than only one person.

Serious answers only. For over a year I was told that trump "doesn't have anything to do with that".

I honestly need to know from an actual Republican who believed trumps words and is now witnessing p2025 almost hit 50% completion with the department of education getting dismantled.

And with that; how do these people feel that public schools, daycare centers and tech schools all going to cost 3-6x as much as it does now for tuition?

even using FreeTube, i have to change audio track and subtitle settings almost non-stop...

it's slightly less annoying to see wrong/unnecessary subtitles. but it's pretty confusing/tiring when the algorithm interprets sound effects or music (instrumental even) as Hindi or Uzbek or something and i have to turn off subs even if there is no talking.

audio on the other hand 🤬👿👹

even if I watch a video not in either of my 2 fluent languages, i don't ever want to hear any dubbed/ai-gen audio track.

any idea if this is in YouTube's issue tracker?

regardless, in the absence of fix from YouTube side, any clue if this can be improved on the client side?

Like, say, you are a revolutionary who's imprisoned, but you are allowed to write letters to your family. How would you covertly send a message to your fellow revolutionaries that only they can decode? (Your family are on your side will pass the letter along)

Obviously, it cannot appear to contain any obvious ciphertext, since the prison guards would just rip up your letter and not send it.

I’ve seen comments saying artist should be able to use AI for their own voice because producers don’t actually play the instruments used for songs.

IMO, I disagree seeing as producers are still making the actual song and contributing a large portion to it. An artist using AI, even if it’s their own voice (which they own). Means they’re contributing absolutely nothing to the song other than their written verse. Even worse if they didn’t write it themselves.

• 75km (1hr) to a big international airport. Airport has direct flights to most EU capitals (2-4hr flights)
• 50km to city center
• 25km from nearest large residential area (500,000+ population)
• 5km from massive organized industrial area (government supports factories here)
• 35km from a rich residential area
• 1km away from the village (its old and mostly depopulated) and animal husbandry area

Access:

• There is public transportation, but one has to walk 1.5km after leaving the bus.
• There is no direct road access to the land. You have to walk like 200m after leaving your car.
• 1km road to here is non-asphalt and its a bit bumpy ride. When it rains, it gets bad here. It rains rarely

It is quite peaceful and quiet there. You can hear interesting bird sounds sometimes. You see no buildings, no cars and no humans anywhere near you when you're there, which feels great imo. You notice the air quality after you leave your car. I personally absolutely would want to live here for a while

Ideas

• Trying to clarify this rn, but I think I can make $120-160/yr/decare from leasing the land to a farmer. Land is 25 decares
• "Unique co-living opportunity with vegan food & yoga sessions" In other words, remote work / digital nomad village for people who want to work REALLY remotely :) I'd have to arrange electricity (solar panels and powerbanks), internet, toilet, shower, water, tents, mattresses/pillows/sheets, food, drinking water. (Though I don't know what people will do when they're bored here? Any ideas? Meditation would get boring after some point)
• Sadly location isn't touristic, but it is 1hr flight away from extremely touristic areas. One of those areas, a city, was the most visited city in the world a few years ago.

How did you guys get your fediverse real-time notifications to work, pushed directly into your phone's notifications section? It seems that at the moment, I am using the Summit app, which claims that it checks every 15 minutes. However, my Summit app doesn't work in real-time, possibly because my phone is old, even though I have turned off battery optimization. Currently, I rely on my email services to receive notifications from my fediverse social accounts.

Where I’m at, the temps flip-flop day to day, even hour to hour. In the morning it’s 35° outside, and by evening it’s 79°. I gave up keeping up with the temps and shut my unit off for the time being.

My question is why can’t HVAC units be programmed to say that if the outside temp reaches n° and the inside temp reaches m° cold, turn on the heat; conversely, if the outside temp rises to n° and the inside temp reaches m°, then turn on the AC?

My thermostat already knows the outside and inside temp, but I still have to manually switch it back and forth. I want a system that I can just set it and forget it all year round.

If the court issues an order and the attorney general subsequently refuses to enforce that order, couldn't the court then issue an order placing the attorney general under arrest?
