Wipeout is one of my favourite series so wanted to share this. Almost certainly it started my love of the genre, the symbolism, the music and other games like Rollcage, Fast Racing Neo, F-Zero, Redout and GRIP.
I used to listen to the soundtrack (since it used to be on the CD as standard audio tracks) and never realised in my foolish youth that it was from actual musicians with whole albums I could check out.
Oh man WipEout 2097 was such a musical revelation and the soundtrack of my teenage years! I still love to this day The Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers or Orbital
I got into the series in the opposite direction. Got the Wipeout XL soundtrack because it had all my faves in it. Then started playing the games and saw what great mix of gameplay and music the experience was. I've been a fan ever since.
