Hamachi like altervative (discuss.tchncs.de)

I'd like to play Minetest with a friends over the internet (not the same network). I previously used Hamachi and it worked well but I want to use an easy and open source alternative. So is there any real alternative or should I just continue to use Hamachi?

It's not a 1:1, but I use OpenVPN (I run my own home server), I gave one of my friends the profile and it works just fine. Pretty easy, imo

do you have any tutorial. I just want to run a Minetest server for 2 players using OpenVPN

My router supported it out of the box, then just install the OpenVPN connect client. Not sure how to do it otherwise
