Seems like the cool change is here! Or at least it's much colder outside than it is inside (32°C).

Edit: It's raining in the west now!

On tram home after trekking thru city shopping. I am DRIPPING. This tram is meant to be air conditioned, I think it's on its lowest setting 🥵🥵🥵

So far so good with today’s weather. Only 34 at my place, air con doing a lovely job of keeping it nice inside. Washing dried super fast on the line. Managed to get a couple of chores done too.

I am excited for vegables. Was strict meat and eggs for a week basically to kick start keto. Now tmrw morning I look forward to: 1 steak, 1 avo, 1 zucchini, and a half punnet of mushies. Cooked in butter. Have had like two salads in the last week but I'm missing veges. Going to keep up with one meal a day keto for the foreseeable future, just W more veg

Got my power bill for the first 30 days of my tenancy. Could be worse, at first I was all SIXTY DOLLAS?! but then realised my previous two months at my old place (same provider and reseller) with zero AC use were 56 and 57 bucks each.

That first digit bias is real. Maybe using the AC won't be that pricey. Should see what the power usage is like after running it for >24hrs over Sun and today (so nice inside, even the bedroom is tolerable). 26C on economy mode, could be ok?

At least I'm saving about 10/week without gas and not needing to pay for water and hot water.

Today kind of sucked and not just the heat.

spoilerWhen I asked for more antibiotics the receptionist was kind of snippy on the phone and didn’t think I should have them, but then relented and said she’d ask. Then I went to pick them up and once she recognised me from the phone I kind of got a grumpy ‘oh’.

I would have thought it was just the busy time of year but she spoke more nicely to the guy who came in after me. And no, I wasn’t being blunt or rude myself. I was consciously being very polite and almost feeling like I had to beg. I left the last dentist because of the receptionist there… I will be keeping an eye on the interactions. 🫤

Edit: She also brought up that I had cancelled an appointment before Xmas but that was purely because they weren’t going to let me leave alone after a procedure and the person I had couldn’t make it. I would have attended if not the case.

I think the man and I have kept the economy going with a consumption of pies and coffee. Oh and beer.

spoilerA plain pie, beef pie or beef mince pie is wrong. It's a mince pie.

A vanilla slice is not called a vanilla slice custard square thingo. You will be met with confusion, recognition then a smirk all within seconds. Coconut maybe included. A nice surprise.

A large coffee is in fact a medium. An extra large is a large and rarer to find so will elicit a very eager YES PLEASE.

I think NZ is sponsored by Speight's. It's everywhere. On tap, at the bottle-o, 2nd aisle of every supermarket. Milk, bread, eggs, a six pack.

I really miss my little dog and doona covers.

Waiting for the smoke detector people. Will they by some miracle make it within the assigned time slot this year?

Movie talk. War of the Rohirrim.

It was very good, a meaningful story that merits watching a few times. Sort of like Beowulf.

Animation so inventive , sets a strange mood. Mythic characters in a real setting sets a feeling of timelessness, a fairy tale once upon a time.

Characters were good too .

If I didn't know better I'd say GDT was involved, what with the inventive animation, the empowered women and it's about the Rohirrim, but it might just have been the jackson production quoting his lines.

I loved it. Cried my eyes out but I do that for most movies. 3.75 hobbits

Smoke alarm dude may have been on time, but he moved the alarms for the third time in as many years. I refuse to believe the regulations have changed that often. They are now all out of non ladder reach so I can't hit the button when they get set off by humidity. Four times so far this afternoon. TheVoid literally shat himself.

So I've ended up with a gift card to one of my most hated shopping places.

David Jones.

Overpriced and almost nothing that interests me there.

One possible thing I could do is use it to buy a laptop bag or am I better off spending my own money and claiming it as a tax deduction?

Not to jinx myself, but I think most clients have a change freeze at the moment.

Let's see what happens.

Looking for a bit of advice from you good folk.

I am under very heavy suggestion to undertake some form of mindful, de-stressing activity that is not running or cycling (which I already do but tend to get a bit competitive with myself about).

Having never done either, can someone with practical experuence of both give me some idea of relative pros and cons of pilates and yoga? or what the hell all the different yoga types are and what is best for a novice??

edit: you guys rock, thanks heaps for all the info and ideas!
