Motorola has unlockable bootloaders with Lineage support up to the Moto edge 30. It's advanced versions as well as the 40 series doesn't tho. The only downside of them is the bad camera.
My previous phone was actually an edge series phone. But unfortunately it was a Moto edge 20 fusion which had a Mediatek SoC.
Nothing has changed. Custom rom support has always been a tiny minority of phones.
As current phones get more and more advanced features the desire for custom roms is dropping since you lose all those features.
