I just started running this year and I have to blow my nose every 2-3 miles when I run. Does everyone do this? Will it ever end?

When it's bad enough I learned to do a "farmers blow", which is admittedly super gross - but it's effective at clearing my nose and doesn't require bringing tissues (esp. useful when I am cycling or running in bad weather).

This is what I do if it's really bad when I'm running. It's rare to get that bad, but I have shot snot on the ground while tilting my head away from my body.

If it's a small amount of snot, I can just wipe it with my shirt.

What can I say? I'm nasty, but I'm already being nasty by running, so I don't mind.

yes, you get it!

And completely agree that you're already gross from running, it's just socially faux pas so I prefer to wait until I'm not around others to do it (if possible, if I'm really suffering I'll just do it anyway 🫠).

What’s that like a double snot rocket?

Cover one nostril with finger, then blow very hard (try to aim for the ground and not on your clothes), then reverse which nostril you cover and do the same.

It's really gross, I try to only do it when no one is around, but it is useful.

For me it eventually stopped but I don't know how bad it is for you really. I never had to stop running I would just hold one nostril and let out a snot rocket as needed lol. Sometimes I have to spit out the snot too

Yup, exercise-induced rhinitis. It happens every time I do cardio. Half the time I end up using my sleeve because I can't seem to remember tissues.

I like to say "I have exercise-induced rhinitis. That means my nose runs when I do"

I've run for years and I'm glad this is the first in hearing of this.

Does it restrict your breathing as you go too?

Kinda I just have to switch to mouth breathing until I’m able to get it out

I had some similar concerns at one point but at least for me I noticed my nose stopped bothering me like that after a few weeks.

I'm running together with a friend and he has this. I also tend to sniffle in between if that's the right word, but I don't need full on tissues usually.

So I always bring some in case he forgets.
