I wouldn't call them weak and ineffective. I'd call them corrupt and compromised.

They don't roll over because they're weak - they roll over because that's what the donor class pays them to do.

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago

Exactly. They seem exceedingly effective at what they do - enabling the absurdly rich to become obscenely rich.

I just finished rewatching "The Good Place" and can't help but to think the Good Place Committee were written in a way to make fun of democrats.

It's a pretty spot on representation.

Every time a Democrat tries to enter a ICE trafficking facility and is turned away without a fight, demonstrates a lack of spine. As it is, there is no point in the party.

Zohran the Destroyer is needed, as is AOC and company.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Yeah they should show up with large armed guards and push their way in. They have a right to see what's going on.

The way they do it, it's just some old people knocking on the door.

If there are any Democrats who don't call their party weak and ineffective, they're the ones responsible for that.

[–] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago (1 children)

New members that want to run should be running on reversing citizens United and reversing everything this guy has done. And charged all ice agents for terrorism.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

Forget charging ICE agents with terrorism. We need to rendition ICE agents to the countries of their victims. The US justice system cannot be trusted to hold ICE agents accountable for their crimes against humanity. SCOTUS is corrupt and not a legitimate court. So let's send ICE agents to where they will be held accountable. All those ICE agents that sent innocent Venezuelan citizens to a torture camp in El Salvador? They should all be rounded up and sent to Venezuela to face justice for their crimes against Venezuelan citizens.

They could at least show some solidarity with the people who are actually putting up a righteous fight like Jack Smith and Zohran Mamdani.

Sorry, all out of solidarity, all we have is back-knives and ratfucks.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 15 points 4 days ago

Once you realize that the dem party doesn't actually want to make any real changes, then you stop being surprised and confused about this.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

As a registered democrat, I also call the party weak and ineffective.

If you actually think Democrats are doing a good job then I have a beachfront property to sell you.

To be “effective” would be against the interests of their wealthy benefactors. The Democratic Party does not exist to “win”, they exist to attract and neutralize progressive movements and make sure that the Overton Window never moves left, that discussion about raising the FICA cap, for example, are “heard”, but never, NEVER implemented. They are there to STOP you. It’s called a “Honey Trap”. The “Ratchet Effect” is also a relevant term.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Not shocking that a party isn't against things like big business when thats where they get their money from

[–] GuyFawkes@midwest.social 9 points 4 days ago

I call them that when I’m in a GOOD mood.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

"Americans voted to give total control of all branches of the government to Republicans."

-its the Democrats fault.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 33 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And when the democrats have power they have to be nice to the republicans no matter what.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 23 points 4 days ago

Can’t do anything because republicans might yell at them. If that fails, the senate parliamentarian won’t let them. Otherwise, simply have other priorities (cashing donor checks).

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No it's their fault for not holding trump accountable for insurrection. They were too scared of looking political so they just let him get away with crimes. Now he is back. He should have been in prison or under a cross in some dirt like 5 years ago.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That's a fair criticism. But the article doesn't mention anything about their past failure. It's about what Democrats are doing now. The quotes imply Americans do not understand their own government. "The current Democrat response is scattershot" Americans gave every branch of the government to Republicans. Democrats can't save them now. Americans did it to themselves.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (18 children)

When a populace is so disillusioned with one party that they choose to hand total control over to the other party, would you not conclude that the first party failed to appeal to the populace? Is it not the responsibility of the party to convince the populace to vote for them?

Many people on the left seem to think the Democrats are entitled to votes because of how terrible Republican politics are. This has even been the foundation of the Democrats' campaign against Trump over the last decade, "vote for Dems because Trump is bad". A strategy with a success rate of 1-in-3, which would have been 0-in-3 if there hadn't been a once-in-a-century global pandemic to help bring gravity to the Dems' messaging at the perfect time, and even then they barely eeked out a win.

Many Democrats see the truth it seems.

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

Many Democrats would much rather be Socialists but McCarthyism screwed the US up in ways that still haven't ironed out
