!WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone continues to tick along nicely we've got some great core users and lots of people dropping in sporadically

Happy to announce that !rwby@sh.itjust.works is under new management (it's me, I'm the new management).

Been trying to get people to sub to communities they would be interested in if they were busy. I do it have the mental capacity to start my own community and moderate it. But I feel like I'm doing the next best thing.

That post is interesting. As I said my comment there (https://lemmy.world/comment/18609088 ), people don't seem to realize we don't have the userbase for such niche communities, but hopefully that will make them realize we need more general communities for now

we don’t have the userbase for such niche communities

depends what we expect of the niche communities.... true that we don't have large niche communities like on r$ddit... but I think of the fediverse more like a cafe not like a stadium...

Even in a cafe, you need one customer on top of the waiter

A lot of places on general topics are ghost towns, !skincareaddiction@sh.itjust.works is a general topic but don't get any activity, so nicher communities will definitely struggle

oh wow I need to go to fancier cafes... where I'm at there's just a counter where you get your stuff and then you go to your table...

OK maybe a better analogy is an "open to the public" picnic. Some people put blankets out and are sharing from their baskets. If they're the only person sharing, everybody gets bored. But you can still have a good interaction if 3-4 people are sharing per blanket.

Yes, that's the spirit!

I've gotten some really good engagement on recent discussion posts over at !soulslike@lemmy.zip which is a lot of fun. Also some original posts by people other than me which is also really promising. Content with how things are right now.

Well done !

Activity's picking up again on !streetwear@lemmy.world after a hiatus of about a year. (not really "my community" but it's interesting to see it happen.)

Good to see that the mod is keeping it active

[–] Sergio@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Well, it's interesting to see how it happened. @jilanico@lemmy.world was posting once every couple of weeks or so, then @TehBamski@lemmy.world make 3 posts over the last week, then @BlueEther@no.lastname.nz and I jumped in with one post each.

Dunno if it'll last or not (personally I'm only good for 1-2 posts a month max) but my current hypothesis is that you need 2-3 core posters and a handful of occasional non-core (ideally non-mod) posters to show that others are welcome.

There's also a skill in making posts that encourage discussion... instead of just providing content to consume mindlessly... I don't know how to do that very well yet tho...

We could create a thread about that this week!

Really appreciate you supporting the streetwear community 🤝❤️ thank you!!!

[–] Sergio@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, wish I could contribute more... I don't have that much content tho... I think I'm good for 1-2 posts a month as long as the community's active...

I've recently found Pinterest to be way better than Imgur, at discovering content for the communities I like to post in and those that I try to give a boost to. And more powerful is Pinterest's related content finder. Also, keywords mean a lot more on Pinterest than they do on Imgur. I can find more content 'in between things' by adding or subtracting words in my Pinterest search.
