This Superman soars—not by outmuscling Cavill’s brooding demigod or remaking Christopher Reeve’s gentle icon, but by capturing the sense of wonder that first hooked me as a child. When I watched Christopher Reeve’s Superman all those years ago, I felt the awe of a world made bright by heroes. Now, watching Corenswet’s take with my seven-year-old daughter, I can see her experiencing that same wide-eyed excitement. Gunn’s film hands the magic down—a perfect introduction for a new generation, every bit as joyous and inviting as it was for mine.

Having a rescue dog of my own with behavioral issues made me appreciate Krypto a lot in this. James Gunn really nailed what it's like to have one, he is an asshole but I love him still. Every time Krypto was on screen I was just thinking of similar things my own little monster has done in the past. Especially Krypto being hypnotised by squirrels, we can't walk past a single squirrel in the park without him locking onto it. Not usually a huge superhero movie fan but I really liked this, feels like they had a good balance between action, humour, and nods towards real world events & David Corenswet was the perfect casting for Superman.

Just saw it yesterday and liked it more than I didn't. I think the actor playing Lex really dropped the ball, just never felt like a real character. His speech near the end felt really forced. Lex strikes me as a tough character to portray on the screen but others have done it better.

Nathan Fillion and the dog really stole the show, great to see the justice gang, great to see the handful of other character cameos. Superman's little speech at the end really hit great for me. I think they did a great job staying true to his character. Certainly worth a watch.

I really like Nicholas Hoult, just not as Lex. He just looks so innocent and it felt like he was trying too hard to be mean.

As long a comic reader, this movie portraits everything that Superman is.

Instead of god on earth like the Man of Steel, this Superman care about everyone even the squirrel.

And the other characters they nailed each one, Guy Gardner personality is exactly like the comics, best Lex Luthor i have seen in movies (and it's bald), and of course the best character Krypto, stole every scene when it shows.

Looking forward for Supergirl, supposedly based on "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" which a great comic

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

depends which country you're in. America? NO! Australia? No one gives a fuck about torrents anymore. Torrent till your heart's content

The movie is overhyped just like sinners. It's good but I don't see what's got people so crazy other than aesthetics. Forgot to add Weapons.

Maybe the rest are so bland and uncreative that anything good comes out it's hailed as great?

Overall I enjoyed it. My only criticism was just too much going on at once in the second half of the movie. I will say the secondary characters were actually super memorable though compared to others. I ended up enjoying Terrific just as much as Superman. The 'hacking the rift' thing was a little much, but I think it was decently done. Also the 'gamer bro' types that were part of Lex Luthor's team were pretty cringe. Highly recommend the movie for at least one watch.

*Terrific (assuming you're talking about the tech hero and not the Marvel movie)

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Ack, good catch. Terrific was fantastic, haha. Editing my initial comment. Appreciate it!

I don't know about all that. I saw this last week with some friends and we walked out of there feeling like it wasn't a bad movie, but something seemed too familiar and a bit off. We were discussing it and one of my friends figured it out: this movie was largely a remake of Superman IV.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's an odd consensus. I've never seen it, but going off the summary, it maybe shares some similarities to one minor plot point in the 2025 movie, of which there are many, many others, most of which are commentary on (if not outright emulations of) very current affairs and trends that a movie from the 80s wouldn't compare to at all.

Your criticism is you think it seemed like a recap of a movie that came out almost 40 years ago? So what part is a recap? The Justice Gang? Krypto? Ultraman? The portal to a pocket dimension? The only plot point I can see that's remotely similar is Ultraman and Lex Luthor. Nothing else is similar. Even if it was a shot for shot remake you're talking about a movie that came out over 3 decades ago. I definitely feel that movies should be under scrutiny, especially remakes and reboots, but even this is a bit much for me.

[–] Kernal64@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Damn, dude, you saw the part where I said it wasn't a bad movie, right? I was just sharing what I thought, not attacking everyone who loved the movie. Sorry for having an opinion, I guess.

[–] BryceBassitt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

Nah man, explain your point cause it makes no sense to me either
