I'm using Firefox as my main browser and see a lot of websites which support passkeys but only with Safari and Chrome, but not Firefox.

Why is that? Is this because of the market share or the implementation?

Looks like Firefox has some different implementation ways than the other two, according to AuthGear https://www.authgear.com/post/passkeys-compatibility

For me, Nintendo refuses to register passkeys on both desktop Firefox (Librewolf), and IronFox (on /e/OS). Something about unsupported browser of device.

I'm using passkeys in firefox with bitwarden and it works fine. How do they not work for you? Like what's actually broken about it? Do they not get offered where other browsers work?

My understanding is that Firefox can't generate and store them by itself, it needs some other mechanism.

I use FF and have a lot of sites that use them (Sony, Amazon, Logitech, etc ) and never had any issues with them.

I’ve had them working on Firefox using series 5 Yubikeys and using KeePassXC + KeePassXC-Browser extension. These were on MacOS, though I’m not sure that matters.

The current Yubikey firmware can store 100 passkeys. Mine is older and can only hold 25. The firmware can’t be updated. https://www.yubico.com/resource/whats-new-in-yubikey-5-7/
