[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 25 minutes ago* (last edited 25 minutes ago)

why would arguing online of all things give dopamine at all? how does that even work?

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (4 children)

So literally everyone has adhd now. Got it

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 1 points 39 minutes ago

I think increased screen time has contributed to more people developing symptoms of adhd. If we'd just go out and get a life, we'd be able to focus more long-attention span on things.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 44 minutes ago

The girlfriend doesn't have it, and she hates debating/arguing. She also doesn't post things online.

I'll give you a minute to figure out the point I'm making.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

If you just look at people arguing into the void online sure lol

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Yes, Snake, Dopamine. cue black & white montage Back in the late 20th centurt we started understanding that people with ADHD have a deficienty in Dopamine, causing lack of motivation.end montage

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 46 minutes ago

Oh I see what they did there now, thanks to you.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 34 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Pffff. This person is clearly incorrect about many aspects of this πŸ™„

[–] Turret3857@infosec.pub 15 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Source? Peer reviewed source? I think theyre Correct as this has happened to ME. are you denying my experiences?

Your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad!

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I get a bigger kick by being helpful and sharing relevant content.

[–] Donkter@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I helpfully tell people why they're misinformed cause I think learning is for everyone.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

We get it bruv, you win, you're definitely the most helpful rolls eyes

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

...I try my best

Whether that amounts to anything is still up to debate.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 hours ago

Yesssssss then we get to debate

[–] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 12 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Well this is bullshit I have ADHD where the heck is all the dopamine?

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It's a slow trickle. It's like the research that was done into gambling addicts. The majority of dopamine doesn't come from winning. The majority of it comes from the anticipation. Or in our case. Writing out a long comment that no one else will read.

[–] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Is THAT why I write a long response and then just delete instead of sending my reply?

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 9 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It doesn't mean you feel euphoric. It's more like a reinforcement. -an addiction.

[–] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I know I was being flippant. What I mean is, the few (several...) times I've gotten into internet arguments I am always drained and unhappy and profoundly do not want to do it anymore, even if I am arguing over sincerely held beliefs. I guess I can see why trolling can be addictive, eliciting engagement is a kind of power over people, and power is addictive. And arguing over things I don't care about probably takes a lot less emotional investment than things I do care about... I feel like I'm talking myself into being an internet troll. Still though, seems like a miserable way to get your rocks off :/

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, typically when someone is trolling, they're doing it just to piss off the other person. Like, Bugs Bunny doesn't get worn out from torturing Elmer Fudd.

He stays bright and chipper and sassy the whole time while Elmer Fudd edges closer and closer to the aneurysm that will finally send him to hell.

It's because the only dog he has in the fight is you

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 6 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

And people think I have an issue when I say " I gotta go start a random disagreement online with someone to feel better", I don't care if I lose.

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

...you do have an issue. But you're not alone! Lol that's something

[–] dumbass@aussie.zone 6 points 5 hours ago

Well yeah, I have a plethora of them, but this isn't one.

I have been very pleased recently because I started shit in a sub. The post was all about some guy who stacked a bunch of modems to download a file at half a megabit per second (your home internet is probably 1000x that speed).

I said it was a stupid and pointless waste of time. Nobody agreed and that little seed has produced a LOT of sweet delicious argument fruit. Funny what'll get people's goat. I didn't start out with a battle in mind but I'm feeling pretty smug about the whole thing.

Now I get trolling.

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Lol!!! I saw your comment, wrote something to get shit stirring at a bit higher pace, and pressed cancel. I don't have the mental capacity at the moment for the shit I was about to send in every direction hahahahaha!!! But I thoroughly enjoyed the shit that you threw about

[–] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

That’s the beauty of it, you can just post that, and then let others sling shit at each other. I do it to my friends who like to argue about politics a lot. Start a conversation that I know is gonna cause them to bicker, and then step away and watch the fireworks while eating popcorn.

I couldn't quite word it just right for my liking (I don't have ocd, you have ocd), and was lacking mental power to get it right lol

[–] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

If we can't have some fun flinging poo, what is the point of being here?

Dang right!! Lol!
