Explanation: What we now call the Byzantine Empire was referred to by Catholics as the Empire of the Greeks, but called itself the Roman Empire of old.
But if it was the Roman Empire, as it claimed... why did it not control the city of Rome? CHECKMATE, BYZIEBOOS!
When the Western part of the Roman empire fell, nothing really changed in the East. Politics, economy, administration and culture, everything just continued. So why should they suddenly have to change their name, just because some people far away got lazy and messed up?
