I never realized how drastically undersized this army is. It's a galaxy spanning empire and its promised army is smaller than the losses the USSR suffered in single battles in WWII.

At this point in lore, it's not actually an empire, it's a republic and they didn't have an army at all. They had to make one from scratch in a short period of time. Luckily due to some other fuckery, a cloning project was set up to make a clone army. The numbers are stupidly low, like only 3 million CONFIRMED, but with certain phrases and lines it could potentially have been billions. At any rate, a big limiting factor was cost. But when you desperately need an army and you don't have even the training framework of one? Print those bad boys.
Do you know how hard it is to make a normal number of dumplings? The dough recipe alone becomes too fiddly to mix and knead at under 50 wrappers, they use a tablespoon of filling, AT MOST, so in order to make 32, that's a scant two cups of filling. Plus after I've gone through making the wrappers and filling, I gotta wrap em all, or make you help. And if you help, I might as well trap you to help make a hundred so I can freeze em and send you home with some, plus now I have company for an hour or two.

I'm just a man with a Polish boyfriend whose family prefers my pierogi over the Polish deli they've been frequenting for two generations, which is an amazing honor, who is trying to explain why "Oh and mom asked if you'd make pierogi for the holiday" means that our freezer has fifty to a hundred pierogi in it now.
Tbqh it's easier to scale for pierogi or baozi since the dough is thicker. It's jiaozi that's really tough to scale down to a number that doesn't prompt a "Fuck, that's a lot of dumplings!"
And to be even more honest, I don't mind, I'm just a lil slut for dumplings
