Identity is a construct. Identify however you wish to be identified. You will be judged by and perceived as the identity people inevitably assign to you, regardless of how you self identify. Hopefully it matches. Maybe it won't.

Mostly, just try to be okay with yourself. Be a decent human and people will generally be okay with you.

It does something for the victim and I think it could affect the department. But I understand what you're saying.

I never hear of officers being sued though. I wonder if they are protected somehow.

Your first step might be finding someone who can mentor you and help you and teach you a bit. Someone with patience and who is caring.

To be honest though, it sounds like some good therapeutic council would do you very well and bring quality of life.

I mean, time-travel stories typically involve traveling by way of some mechanism be it a spell, wormhole, tear in spacetime and etc. The end goal is usually traveling from one point to another with a purpose. Characters can travel back and forth. Everyone usually remembers each encounter.

Time-loops, like in Groundhog's Day or Edge of Tomorrow, usually cause people to get "stuck." Some plot device is then introduced to eventually "unstick" them. Only the people stuck in the loop are usually aware that anything is happening.

It really is confusing to me considering the amount of money they put into things like Lord of the Rings and Wheel of Time. They're obviously investing in the platform. But at the same time, it's designed in a way that makes it wildly painful to use.

I'll believe it when I see it. These so called governments have pervasively done this and will continue to. People, already destitute, having the very little they have crushed and ruined, are left to rebuild again from the broken bricks as the cycle continues. Hindustan is a broken nation, rife with corruption. They could be so much more, but continue to perpetuate one atrocity after another.

Take care of your people. Stop crushing them. Learn love, tolerance, and cooperation. End the violence, discrimination, and worse.

But if they can't get the ten commandments in school, how then will trickle-down indoctrination work? 🤔

If anything, the cops should have been more on the ball in your case. I would have been grateful as a parent. Bring the kid home and let it end there. What happened in this article is describing something so very far on the other side of the pendulum. Good grief.

As for me, I managed to stay out of sight of the police. And I will admit that there are times when the police would have had very very good reason to take me downtown. 😬 I can't even count how many times the cops brought my older brother home. But in every case, it ended there.

I'm guessing the cops want to make sure kids are better controlled these days that way they can more effectively shoot other innocent kids with all that extra free time they have.

This is insane. When exactly is a permissible age for kids to be walking about on their own?

Things are absolutely different today than they were when I was a kid. My parents never had any idea where I was. They simply said "be home by dinner" and I was home by dinner. Did we get into trouble? Absolutely. But that's part of being kids.

Fast forward to today. My partner and I don't see eye to eye on this because of how things feel so unsafe now. I know how valuable that independence was for me though, so I tend towards permissiveness.

The thing is, kids still walk to school in all kinds of localities. I remember walking to school on a much busier road than the one described in this article. The worst I ever encountered was teenagers throwing eggs once. (Haha. They missed.) And yeah, drivers may hit you. I get it. The government can help mitigate that with better planning and sidewalks, if they actually cared.

But a tracking app too!? Where the government can know my kids location?! That presumes my children even have a phone with a mobile plan, which is a privilege the government isn't paying for. And if they did, @#$& you government! Seriously. WTF?!

I'm both flabbergasted and not. Because, these days, I pretty much only expect fuckery. I wish that weren't the case. I often hope it isn't. And I love being surprised when it's not the case. But 🤬!

A new study of Japanese tits provides the first evidence of non-primate animals using gestures to convey messages

When a mated pair of small birds called Japanese tits arrives at the nest, one of them might flutter its wings at the other. The second bird then typically enters the nest first. This motion might be a signal, meant to convey the message “after you” to the other bird, scientists reported Monday in the journal Current Biology.

The research provides the first evidence of animals besides primates using gestures to communicate meaning. The result “shows that Japanese tits not only use wing fluttering as a symbolic gesture, but also in a complex social context involving a sender, receiver and a specific goal, much like how humans communicate,” Toshitaka Suzuki, a co-author of the new study and a biologist at the University of Tokyo, tells Science News’ Darren Incorvaia.

My youngest shared a page from his funny poem book with me. I laughed out loud quite literally and thought I would share it with you all as well. 💜

Photo Description

Top Left: Tree unbalanced. Left side producing little. Right side producing well.

Top Right: Shown from opposite side. Full limbs visible without flowering.

Bottom left: Close up of the left side of the tree. Several branches not flowering down full length.

Bottom right: Closer view of the graft and up.

Please do ask for any more clarifying photos if you think it would help.

Questions:

  • The tree just started blooming this week. Is it too late to start pruning or should I wait until Autumn?

  • Pruning the tree is going to make it even more lopsided than it already is. Would you all recommend trimming back the healthy branches so it's not so heavy on one side?

  • This website gives the advice below. Any thoughts otherwise?

Thank you all so much!

How to Prune a Weeping Cherry Tree

The different types of weeping cherries can grow to between eight and 40 feet tall. Proper pruning keeps these trees looking beautiful and can prevent the development and spread of diseases. Prune while the tree is dormant (no flowers or leaves on the branches) in early spring or late fall. Take the following steps once a year with bypass pruning shears or a pole pruner.

  • Cut back any branches that contact the ground until they’re at least six inches off the ground.
  • Remove branches that are rubbing against each other.
  • Trim back branches that are closer than two inches apart.
  • Remove dead branches.
  • Remove stems or branches growing out of the trunk or around the base of the tree (a.k.a. suckers).
  • Trim back the tips of the branches around the perimeter of the canopy until it’s a balanced, uniform shape.
  • Remove branches that are growing straight up on grafted cherry trees because they will continue to grow upward instead of weeping down.
  • Thin out the mangled cluster of branches that often develops near the base of the canopy of grafted trees.
  • Remove diseased branches as soon as they’re discovered, regardless of the time of year. Sterilize the blade of your cutting tool in between cuts to prevent disease spread.

Does anyone know of a Duolingo-like birding application that gamifies bird identification?

(Particularly for Android and extra points for sound ID in addition to visual ID)

So glad to finally hear an update on this and see that he's actually being punished. I hope others learn from this.

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action in the two years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.

"A U.S. intelligence report declassified in mid-December 2023 estimated that 315,000 Russian troops had been killed or wounded in Ukraine. If accurate, the figure would represent 87% of the roughly 360,000 troops Russia had before the war, according to the report."

I will never feel as though I fit in this world, a place where the so-called leaders of humanity callously throw away the lives of their own people--slaughtering the innocent along the way--in their own broken, vileness.

There is no goodness from such death.

We have the ability, today, to be so much more than we have ever been. We can realize the greatest of human potential. Yet we continue to choose death.

Had I only been born in a later age where I could spend my one life in an era that is extraordinarily glorious. Presuming of course that our species would survive itself to such a time.
