All the people saying "yes" are incorrect. Running on pavement and running on trails exert different strains on the body, but not less. The tendency in road runners is to end up with tibial stress fractures, and in trail runners it is metatarsal stress fractures, but the injury rates are similar. Trail running requires stronger stabilizer muscles (primarily gluteus medius) to maintain knee health in the long term, but this is a problem for both as well.

Use good shoes, strength train your gluteus medius and calves, do most of your miles at an easy pace, and you'll be running for decades, regardless of your chosen surface. You might even change it up and do both!

(My credentials are that i am an ultramarathoner and have run half a dozen races between 26.2 and 50 miles, on pavement and trail, and i have been coached by a professional ultra runner for several seasons.)

I make eye contact and walk at a normal pace. In Spain people get mad when cars drive down city streets. They glare daggers at you while they clear the street begrudgingly. We need that energy in the United States. Cars should know that they are second class citizens.

I have a schedule that has events going out until 6+ months from now. How do you survive with adult responsibilities without doing that?

It's crazy how much height subconsciously influences our opinions of each other. I'm tall enough that most men don't look down at me, and I'm widely respected professionally. Men listen when i talk in meetings, and it's very easy to sell my ideas to people. My shorter coworkers who are more talented than i am struggle to gain respect.

My ex is 5'2" and i have very strong feelings of cute aggression towards her, and have to consciously remind myself to consider her opinions sometimes. It doesn't help that she acted like a child a lot during our relationship 😒

I only want gay sex in media. Straight sex makes me uncomfortable.

This young trans girl i know was kicked out by her parents and moved to my city. She was hatecrimed a few weeks after she moved, and went to the police. She was convinced that they were on her side. One of the cops gave her his phone number and she got the impression that he was interested in her and was going to hook up with him. My friends and i very emphatically talked her out of it. I wonder if she would've survived.

This is obviously a "social media manager" generating "engagement". And look at that, it works.

Bad title tbh. It should be called something like "physician flight from red states" or something.

When do we just start calling out that it's about their commercial real estate holdings? I'm an engineer at a large fortune 500, and while my part of the company has made it very clear to leadership that we are going to remain remote, they made this whole huge deal about RTO for the rest of the company. They said it was about culture, but it's very obviously about real estate. The CEO is very ego driven and likes his big buildings. I was really hoping someone would have the balls to call him on that in one of the many comical public meetings they had about RTO.

I grew up in a big family like this. All of us are deeply scarred. What's lurking beneath the surface in most of these families is severe neglect from parents, sexual abuse from unsupervised and confused siblings or older relatives, catastrophically underdeveloped social skills. No parents can properly raise 9 children at once. It's an environment that creates adults with no boundaries and no self esteem and tons of hidden trauma.

I was born into an impoverished extremist right wing family. I enlisted in the military back when DADT was a thing. I was disowned as an LGBT teenager, and medboarded out of the military after being committed to inpatient facilities multiple times. After that, i was homeless for a couple years, living out of a car and then a backpack.

I finally ended up in this little town in Georgia, got a job at a little retail store, and moved into a trailer with one of my coworkers. Her friends kind of adopted me and i felt accepted for the first time in my life. We were all broke kids, but i told them i was going to be a millionaire by age 30. I was still pretty emotionally unstable and eventually moved on from that friend group, but it gave me the hope i needed to rebuild my life.

I slowly built a career for myself after that, working 70-80 hours a week for a couple years, until i had my foot in the door. It got a lot easier after that. I didn't quite hit my goal by age 30, but I'm close. I founded my first company at age 28, and raised a 10 million series A. My company is now worth 60 million on paper, but of course that's meaningless until we IPO. But it's profitable, and in the meantime, I've adopted a little family of people like me, and built a comfortable life for us. Life is good, and I'm content.
