For short haul flights where a train is preferable, or private iets, absolutely. However airplanes are still the most efficient way to travel long distances. Abolishing airplanes altogether is one of the least thought out takes I've ever heard.

Gave me such anxiety. Loved all the guest actors they got to play family

A US soldier is currently in process of defecting to the DPRK. This is a developing story

Wow that's so wrong it's funny.

.ml = Mali

The country of Mali allows free domain registration.

That's why it's used. Because it's free.

But by all means, keep buying into the tankie conspiracy instead of actually reading into things

I do not like the direction this is going.

Every time the working class gains wins under capitalism they are short term at best. The new deal in the US is a great example. As long as capital controls the levers of power, it will always find ways to claw back the gains of the working class for for the name of profit.

our cultures

For instance, I'm on Jury Duty in the US this week. Kinda a freebie but I still have to call in and input my "ID" number, birthday, and zip code before entering phone tree options to hear my summons status. So I saved a contact in my phone for the jury hotline with the main number, my Id number, birthday, zip code, and menu option numbers all separated by a comma. Now when I dial using the saved contact, it will automatically enter everything in and I don't have to fumble around and spend unneeded time to hear if I have to report.

This can easily be adapted for any automated phone system that you call frequently although you'll have the best results when you have to enter in a long account number like at a bank.

YYSK: It's a huge timesaver in the age of digital automation to use your phone to navigate phone tree menus

The "all" stream would be all of the posts from the combined subs of the users on the instance. So if there's a community nobody is subscribed to, it won't appear on all. This is true of all instances. Many smaller ones will employ bots to crawl Lemmy and sub to communities to give the large instance "all" feeling.

That being said, yeah it's all preloaded onto your local server. There is no difference in speed. Doesn't matter if it's active/subed or new/all they all load the same

I'd highly encourage everyone to find smaller instances and leave lemmy.world for the immediate expats. Find something that aligns with your values. Or if you are technically literate enough host your own instance. If you have an old desktop computer you've already got everything you need.

Everything is faster. For the most part, your local instance will download posts and comments for any community you (or anyone else on your instance) is subscribed to. So when you log in, you log into your server and browse the content locally (posts from everywhere) while your server in the background constantly is receiving updates through the ActivityPub protocol.

I literally have no delay in using Lemmy in any way.

And here I am laughing on my speedy private instance. For real, the best part of Lemmy is if your experience is bad you can hop to a different instance and not miss a post

If you ask me, the fact that it requires a PS5 makes it a non starter. I was really hoping for a standalone handheld, maybe not as powerful as the PS5, but something to compete with the Switch and Steam Deck. Like the PSP was a less powerful PS2 but still a standalone handheld providing a console like experience. Or even a phone handheld, the N-Gage was ahead of its time!

Mod over at !startrek@startrek.website didn't like the opinion presented in an article I shared about the recent cancellation of Star Trek: Prodigy and removed my post to an star trek opinion article. I asked the @ValueSubtracted@startrek.website claimed they removed the opinion piece because they didn't want to give the website clicks.

I wrote a post calling them out on this power hungry practice and tried to involve the community as a whole. As the post gained traction, i was promptly banned for starting "drama"

So now, i guess it's at least mildly infuriating to say the least that a growing community banned someone contributing real discussion worthy content for potentially political reasons and as a result may end up fracturing one of the few kinda centralized communities across the Lemmy verse. I ain't even too mad tho, because that's what makes federation great easy to leave power hungry mods. Too bad for them this ain't reddit 😜
