Dragonsteel 2022's Spoilers Q&A was uploaded to youtube yesterday. Sharing because the Hoid answer, but there's loads of good stuff in there.

Piped Alternative, though I can't seem to find a way to jump to the 14:50 mark: https://piped.video/watch?v=NrpCDV6_sTc

Anyone find the their e-reader struggles with the Secret Projects?

The epubs have these massive, beautiful drawings which my (1 year old) e-reader struggles with every time i reach the end of the chapter, and then because they are so large they are overly zoomed in.

i'm tempted to run them through something like Libre to see if i can compress the images down to something my ereader can handle.

My PC needed front cooling, so I went with windrunner theme.

Ok, I'm going to get this out of the way first: I love Brandon Sanderson's work and the Cosmere is epic and awesome.

It took me some time to warm up to Secret Project #3. My biggest gripe is once again Kate Reading. This time it wasn't pronunciation or tempo, it was her reading in Hoid's voice. Nails on a freaking chalkboard.

The "Hoid-isms" are reduced as the book goes, so there are fewer occurrences of her mangling the Hoid I've grown to love (Michael Kramer) as the book goes. But holy crap that was jarring.

My unsolicited and unprofessional advice to Brandon for the next book that switches gendered perspectives is to have a different voice handling the narration during the female perspective.

I feel it would have been far improved to have the female perspective covered by ~~Pattern~~ Design / Kate with the male perspective being handled by Hoid / Michael.

  • Edit: I keep mixing up Pattern and Design. I swear I'm not racist, some of my best friends are cryptics.

I’m working on a reread of Way of Kings right now (I have fully read the whole cosmere; this is my project while I wait for each secret project), and I just got to the part where Shallan’s siblings are talking to her via spanreed about the soulcaster.

Nan Balat mentions that their father’s steward Luesh was found with a pendant with three diamonds in a strange pattern.

Obviously we know from later books that he was a member of the ghostbloods, but according to the coppermind, all ghostbloods must have the symbol tattooed somewhere on their body, so why does Luesh get away with just having a pendant?

The WoK was a 5 star read for me, WoR a 3 star and now I'm struggling to get properly into Oathbringer. I think I'm on chapter 10. Anyone else have this problem? Does it get more interesting or am I just not a Sanderson person?

Hero of Ages spoilers towards the bottom, markup may not work if you're using Jerboa.

I've never been much of an audiobook person, switching back and forth between physical copies and e-books depending on the situation. However on a recent road trip my wife and I started listening to Mistborn on Audible together.

We're now a few chapters into Well of Ascension and I have to say it's been an amazing experience, and has really enhanced things for both of us.

It's fascinating getting to hear real time takes on different characters and scenes, as well as theory crafting. Some not very accurate, some right on the nose. We're currently on chapter five of WoA and...

Hero of Ages spoilersafter a second recounting of Vin's mother killing her sister and piercing Vin's ear, she wondered aloud if that might have something to do with how much more powerful than a normal mistborn Vin seems to be.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with listening to the Audiobooks with someone? The biggest issue we've encountered is finding ways to break up sessions when getting close to the end of the book, even listening on 1.2x speed the Sanderlanche of The Final Empire is still 4-6 hours long.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on attending whether a past year or this year. Thinking about going this year.

New video just dropped on the official channel. 10+ minutes of Brandon talking about the inspirations that led to the Mistborn series!

Trying to drum up discussion as others have mentioned. Full spoilers.

Which of the 16 Shards of Adonalsium would you pick, had you been present at the shattering? Or be able to Connect to well enough to pick up? Would you try to modify its intent in any way, a la Harmony/Discord?

I have been a lurker of the various Sanderson-themed subreddits. Unfortunately for me and my fellow introverts, there isn't much here to lurk at (yet!). I thought maybe we could get things started by discussing how we all got into the Cosmere. I'll go first!

In November of last year, a friend of mine recommended I read Mistborn. I had just barely started reading again after a long break and was in need of a new series. I was about to go on a long drive, so I borrowed the audiobook from the library so I had something to listen to. I didn't realize what I was getting myself into. In the last six months, I have read every single Cosmere book I could get my hands on, and have absolutely loved each one. I finished it all off with Tress last month. My only regret is not getting into this sooner so I could have been a part of the Secret Project Kickstarter.

Here's hoping we can get this community going!

I wasn't able to find an existing community for Cosmere fans on Lemmy yet, so figured I'd get one spun up.

For now I dropped some basic spoiler guidelines in the sidebar, namely to tag posts with the book being discussed, and tag any comments discussing spoilers outside the book stated in the title.

If the community winds up growing we can spin it out to more dedicated communities such as Mistborn, Stormlight, etc. But for now everything can just be lumped together here!

Cosmere Discussion

A place to discuss stories set in Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere! Non-Cosmere series such as Skyward are also welcome here.

Make sure to tag spoilers. Posts titles should begin with [Book title] to denote what spoilers can be discussed in the thread without tags. i.e [Words of Radiance] or [WoR]

Warning! Spoiler markup currently does not work on the Jerboa or Mlem apps. Spoiler text will be plainly visible when viewing from these apps.

Any comments with spoilers outside the scope of the book mentioned in the title, or books preceding it in a series should be tagged. Lemmy's spoiler formatting for post bodies and comments is:
