We are looking for a new set of Community KDE Goals to work on.

What should KDE focus on over the next two years? Are you ready to share your vision, time and stamina to push KDE to the next level?

Let's evolve KDE together! Find out more here: https://blog.lydiapintscher.de/2024/06/05/what-should-kde-focus-on-for-the-next-2-years-you-can-propose-a-goal/

KleverNotes, KDE's Markdown note-taking and management application using Kirigami, is ready for its first release!

KleverNotes lets you create and preview Markdown notes while giving you the freedom to customize the preview from settings or using a CSS theme.

You can organize your notes however you want with a combination of categories and groups, which will be directly reflected on your system in the hierarchy of your KleverNotes storage folders.

Simply choose your storage location and you're ready to write!

You can print your notes, add small sketches and even create specific tasks for each of them, all from the application!

Notes are saved as Markdown files in your KleverNotes storage for easy access. They support the entire CommonMark specification with extensive syntax. KleverNotes also introduces a small collection of opt-in “plugins” to extend basic markdown functionality, such as: code highlighting, note linking, quick emoji, PUML.

Special thanks

I would like to thank Carl Schwan who helped me through the incubator process, has set up the repository and the various KDE related things, fixed my code, and answered my many questions. The project would not be where it is without him.

History

I started KleverNotes as a small personnal project to learn QML and C++ and motivate myself to take notes in class. After posting a few screenshots of my progress on Reddit, people seemed pretty interested, which inspired me to continue and redouble my efforts. Once it was added to KDE, my motivation grew even more, my final goal is now to be able to offer a simple alternative to QOwnNotes using Kirigami. (I actively use KleverNotes in each of my classes now btw 😬)

Final note

This release doesn't add anything special compared to my last update, just UI tweaks from Carl, which makes the app better looking. I just wanted to get things moving in order to officially push more updates in the future. A big one is in the works and should arrive soon once my exams are finished.

As always, I'll be more than happy to answer your questions, discuss potential features, or hear your point of view 😉

List of locales in Plasma (lemmy.kde.social)

In the Region & Language section of the System Settings, when choosing formats, a list of locales is displayed.

The entries of this list are similar to those in the system (e.g. /usr/share/i18n/supported in Debian) but not identical.

E.g. en_DK.UTF-8 is present in the system but absent from the Plasma locale list; en_SE.UTF-8 is present in the Plasma list, but absent from the system.

Why does Plasma use a separate list of locales?

Where is the Plasma locale list located in the file system?

Is it possible to add a locale absent in Plasma from the system to Plasma?

Opt out? Opt in? Opt Green!

50% of consumers buy new devices due to unsupported software, while the "tsunami of #eWaste" continues to rise.

#FreeSoftware #OpenSource can keep those devices in use and out of the landfill. Today!

Say hello to the new #KDEEco project "#OptGreen: #SustainableSoftware For Sustainable Hardware".

https://eco.kde.org/blog/2024-05-29_introducing-ns4nh/

You don't need new hardware for a secure, up-to-date device; you just need the right software!

Ever since upgrading to Plasma 6 (fedora 40) my chrome web apps have been misbehaving when I try pinning them to the icon-only task manager (is that still what it's called?)

1.They randomly disappear from taskbar although i have pinned them

2.Sometimes they are there but wont work (i get a weird "chdir: not found" error)

3.Pinned chrome apps work but wont survive reboots.

Have you experienced a similar problem? I've tried both stable and beta versions of Google Chrome.

I am running multiple screens from different brands. Because they are not the same, they must be set to different brightness values to look the same.

The problem is that whenever I boot up, the Plasma brightness setting is changed, or Night Light kicks in, Plasma sets all my screens to the same value. This results in one screen being too bright and the other too dark. Every time this happens I must change the value back manually in my screen's built-in menu, which is annoying.

In the Gamma settings panel there appears to be an upcoming feature where different screens can be set to different values but it is grayed out for the moment (running Plasma 6.0.4 on Tumbleweed).

How do I disable this feature while I'm waiting for the ability to set individual brightness values to individual screens to come around?

I made a simple script and timer for a friend to automatically switch between light and dark theme on Plasma. In case anybody needs this.

In view of the latest news coming out of Microsoft...

Yeah, KDE's Plasma doesn't do that either. Your stuff is safe.
