This part makes me think this could be a critique of conformity or racism.

I work for a manufacturing company and sometimes go onto the factory floor, think about this song almost every time.

The first time I heard this, I had to play it for my wife who loves The Cure. Lovingly referred to as "the most 80s song ever." Also reminiscent of Depeche Mode.

I know the album was technically released by Danny Elfman, but I think most people agree it's an Oingo Boingo album.

The line "I should know, I've been hit three times (or was it four?)" sounds like a possible reference to his three previous albums with Oingo Boingo and also a dig at IRS for dropping the band and/or MCA for only offering a solo contract.

My favorite since the first time I heard it

I was lucky enough to see Boingo live a few times. Danny killing Coachella a couple years ago absolutely blew me away. I didn't see it live, didn't even know he was performing, but I saw the video of that performance and it blew me away.

That has little to do with this video. I can't say I have a favorite Boingo song, but Grey Matter will always be in the discussion.
