Ottawa on the Fediverse:

Ottawa chatrooms:

Please note the following:

* All chatrooms are linked together. If you join one room your messages will be copied to the other platforms.

* Matrix is an open source and potentially distributed chat protocol. The matrix room listed is hosted on matrix.org, a somewhat centralized hub for a lot of currently public rooms. Though the protocol itself is free, libre and open source, the deployment of the protocol resembles a centralized service. This may be fixed in the future with the deployment of independent servers.

* Be aware that both Telegram and Discord are centralized proprietary platforms and do not necessarily protect your rights nor privacy while simultaneously giving power to corporations.

I'm unemployed, and my living situation doesn't give me much space or peace to get any kind of work done. So I either want to find co-working space to rent, or coffee shops that don't play music and will allow me to stay for hours. I don't want to use the public libraries anymore. And I don't want to insult them by explaining why, let's just take "public libraries" off the table. Co-working spaces are probably what I'll go for, but wow they're expensive. I'm glad to hear some recommendations of co-working spaces that will let me sit and write (code and prose) whenever I want. Bonus points if they have a kettle so I can make tea. Please share your ideas and experiences!

Anyone have any referrals, or companies they own that might be willing to quote on a full basement Reno? Tired of it being so dated and dank..need less dank.

Happy to hear who you all might recommend. Central Ottawa I guess?

I know the Tea Store in the Byward Market has a nice selection of loose teas (highly recommended), but I'm hoping to find something nearer to downtown or Elgin. Not looking for bagged teas, but a place that actually stocks some loose teas where I can conveniently stop for a while without the detour to Byward Market. A restaurant is fine. It doesn't have to be a tea shop. Thanks!

Elizabeth Yao, the graduating valedictorian at Bell High School in west Ottawa, was told not to go to school on Monday after she made pro-Palestinian remarks during a speech at her commencement ceremony.

If for no other reason than to fill the 'Ottawa in the Fediverse' space :) Found this recently, it's apparently hosted on an ActivityPub compatible service. No idea if direct Lemmy cross-compatibility would work (probably not), but still something interesting/that some users passing through may want to contribute to in some form.

Just sayin'.
