Clever little Python tool provides a constantly-updated text-based user interface (TUI) for GPIO pin status, by querying the RP1 chip.

Gonna check out @homeassistant on one of my @raspberrypi

They're sitting in my drawer not doing anything so I'm gonna try and build out my home network with them.

Hey all!

I have a question: I own a raspberry pi zero and and a few old android phones.

I was wondering if it would be possible to connect on of the screens to the pi?

If so, it would be just a great way to recover some electronics that is just collecting dust

Thanks! 🙏

With the cost of SSD'S dropping I'm looking to retire my bulky, moving-parts server, which is in a mid sized computer tower with several multi terabyte HDD's.

It has been a little over 10 years since I did that build and it has served me well. It's on 24/7 and two of the drives precede the Thailand floods. All three drives lived in /storage and I used LVM to make them look like one giant disk to the rest of the OS/software (on Debian). >!Don't need redundancy and backup is isolated elsewhere, so I'd love to preserve the same storage structure so my configs can transfer over with fewer migration issues.!<

  • What are the limitations of using my spare RPi3B, at least in terms of storage capacity and number of drives?
  • Should I/can I use internal ssd's with USB adapters, in case I want to upgrade the board later and preserve the storage?
  • Will I be able to transcode on the fly via Plex/Jellyfin to stream videos away from home i.e. can the CPU handle that?

Keep in mind that this Pi would be headless, as is my current big box setup. Curious what the community's thoughts might be and if anyone uses their pi's in a similar setup!

Ill keep it short and sweet, io have a pi4 that i tried to use for a couple of things and never really quite worked, whats a genuine helpfull thing to use it for? what system/program would be cool? multiple maybe?

how would an amateur that wasnts thing to just work that dont require an hour of commandline fiddling to work?

I tried a pihole, barely got it to work and never properly connected with the internet i tried retroarch, mostly worked but realized its way easier and more comfortable to use my main machine i tried funkwhale, never got it to install i tried invidious, worked on my main machine, never was able to connect via another machine on the pi (and with the program feeling a little in danger now i felt a lil iffy)

i request assistance and would appreciate it heavily, any and all alternatives, tutorials and help will be seriously considered

Anyone here who has a Turing Pi?

I have a project where I need to make square waves that change frequency based on input on other gpio pins. My issue is that the spec sheet doesn't list the time it takes to evaluate a pio expression (it should be in table 364) which I ofc would need to know to generate an accurate square wave.

Concretely what I'm asking is how many cycles mov y, (x / 2) would take

Support has essentially told me to post on the forum and hope an (off the clock) engineer will dedicate their free time to helping me.

It's a scam, right? How can they offer such good prices when Pi’s are backordered elsewhere?

I'm running a raspberry pi 8GB version, as my plex entertainment center. I also ruin a pihole. The pie has an Ethernet connection.

I have two TV'S, a 2017 Samsung and a 2021 Hisense. Both with Ethernet connections.

My Samsung tv can't stream certain shows at all, they stutter like crazy I'm guessing it has something to do with the encoders? Yesterday I got a message color range not supported whatever the hell that is.

The Hisense TV does better on some shows, but still 4k content is unwatchable, it's constantly buffering.

So, is the problem with the pi? Is it not powerful enough for 4k shows, or some encoding problem or something?

Or is it the TVS, should I buy a Roku box instead, would that solve the streaming problems?

Hey everyone!

So I have a chicken coop and wanted to be able to see the inside of it to make sure predators don't get in at night, etc.

I installed my Pi3 and this webcam into the coop -

I am currently using Motion with motion detection turned off to get a simple stream of jpgs. Its not great.

I have a number of security cameras that I capture video from using ffmpeg to save their RTSP stream. Ideally I would like to run an RTSP server on the Pi and interact with its stream in the same way (I also look at them via HomeAssistant).

I've been beating my head against the wall with MediaMTX / ffmpeg (and its current lack of ffserver) for a bit now. Is there a smarter way to do this?

Hi,

does anyone know if it's possible to expose a µSD card as a block device using an SPI reader like this one : https://www.amazon.fr/ANGEEK-Storage-Module-Socket-Arduino/dp/B07SBR9NL1/ref=sr_1_2

And if so, what would be the way?

Bonus question : is it possible to wire several readers on the same Pi (provided I only need to read one card at a time)?

Thanks

I was dumb when purchasing a speaker/microphone combo, and it has a usb c cable to plug it in (and also receive power). If I want to use this on a pi 4, will a usb c to usb adapter work, or am I out of luck?

I'm currently searching for a established alternative to https://github.com/jasbur/RaspiWiFi

It is a wifi setup portal like typical IoT devices provide them. I think the best example is Xiaomi with its Mi products. (like lamps and robots).

Im trying to create a wifi access point with wifi setup page accessed via a captive portal. I just can't find the suitable name for this kind of solution.

So is jasburs project (or the fork of rwbr with a captive portal and Bootstrap https://github.com/rwbr/RaspiWiFi) the best for this idea?

Thanks in advance!

Raspberry Pi's datasheet directory appears to only list the datasheets for the RPi 1 B+, but not the original RPi 1 B rev 2. Would anyone know where I could find a copy of this information? I know that the board is super old, but it's still useable tech.

This was a fun project and I learned a lot about the data structures used in the Gameboy era.

Someone wrote an article about my original (now deleted) Reddit post if you want to learn more https://www.tomshardware.com/news/raspberry-pi-pico-gameboy-cable-sniffer-emulates-pokemon-trading#xenforo-comments-3805572, or subscribe to my YT as I am releasing a video about the Gameboy Printer this week.

Since they have come back in stock, I bought a Pi 4 2GB and a Pi 4 4GB. the 2GB model had 2 bent GPIO pins and rattled when shaken, so I opened an RMA request for it. the 4GB model has arrived, and it has small solder blobs on the back of the board (see images)

Is this normal or have I just got unlucky with both Pis? I managed to scrape off solder on the first image but they have left a mark on the board.
The 2GB model seems to be completely working and the 4GB one boots to the bootloader but I'm out of SD cards to test it any further. Should I also RMA the 4GB model or am I being silly here?
Thanks.

Anyone got any pointers on how to clean up the picture on my camera module? The picture has become super blurry. I suspect it may have been someone touching it (probably me 😓).

I'm using a Raspberry pi 3 and attempting to compile Lemmy. It's been frozen since about 10am eastern time. I'm hoping it'll finish overnight.

Do you have any experience running Lemmy on a pi? I'd love to hear your stories.

I'm beginning to think to stop using Pis and instead get an old PC - I don't use the GPIO pins at all, and I can get one of these for $289 AUD - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255608574938

That's 32GB RAM and a 1TB disk.
An 8GB Pi is selling for $279.

Heya there all!

I have a lil project with a customized build of openwrt and I need about 4 of the compute module 4’s, one with about 4G RAM and ideally at least 8GB eMMC.

I was intending to use them with the DF Robot IoT router carrier board for the sweet 2x1Gb interfaces.

I filled out the notify me from pishop.us and a couple others, but does anyone happen to know either good alternatives with about the same RAM, on board storage, and performance or a good place to pick some up?

If it’s an alternative, ideally a literal alternative since I already have the DFRobot interface boards. But, if it’s a reasonable price, performance, and it’s compatible with openwrt in about the same form factor I’m still open to it!

Oh and I’m also open to purchasing used ones even at MSRP, but I won’t give someone $200 for it like most scalpers want, lol.

Anyways, appreciate everyone’s time! Hope y’all are havin’ an awesome day. :)
