Reality: This takes place 20 years in the future. The authentication server is down. Game won't load character for offline play. Dad starts looking for emulators and torrenting PS4 bios so emulator will run.
Luckily Dark Souls is one of those games that will still let you play offline.
Console discs are good in that context, usually us PC users get screwed with extra DRMs, launchers etc.
Nah they're sadly not in a lot of cases. Plenty of games where the game won't launch without downloading additional content, sometimes even when you get the disc on launch day.
