The smoking gives no tactical advantage whatsoever
Sure it does, nicotine can make you calmer and more alert. It's a jitter-free stimulant. Not that I recommend taking up smoking.
But then you give away your position with the smell, smoke, and cherry.
Those bots can't smell sh+t
They can see it, though.
They smell data. No need to give them what they want. Incidentally, your lungs will thank you
