" If tomorrow all the things were gone I worked for all my life And I had to start again With just my children and my wife I thank my lucky stars To be living here today 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom And they can't take that away And I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend Her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A."
Knee-jerkers are down-voting this but I want everyone to know that this was blasting on every radio after 9/11 and it was awful.
I, as a child to very Conservative parents who was 11 when this song came out, loved this fucking song. This one, and the "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" song by Tony Keith. I felt sooooooo patriotic belting out "We'll put a boot in yer ass, its the 'Murican way". And these songs were EVERYWHERE. There was also "Where were you when the world stopped turning?"
Thank God my husband woke me tf up.
Even barring my hella conservative upbringing, the amount of attempted indoctrination from media alone is astounding.
Capitalizing on a tragedy is unfortunately a human truth we're never going to fully beat, but it's the blatant "America makes no mistakes and you better say that or you suck" that is so...especially egregious.
