Edit: my problem is stuff that packed it in before I could do a hard reset or wipe the memory in any meaningful way. How much of mine and my kids personal info is still on there. Probably irrational worry.

I don't think that's necessarily irrational. You can just drill straight through it to kill it. We used to do it an old job i was at.

I'd be worried about drilling through the battery ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ’ฅ I suppose I can google about the innards of each device and drill accordingly. Generally speaking, what's the best part to drill through on something like a laptop?

If you like, tell me the model of the laptop and I'll send you a diagram of either where to drill, or exactly how to get the hard drive out:)

pull the hard disk and shove it somewhere. The rest of the computer is just bits and bobs
