That's really cool! Do you do all your projects by recycling? I'm guessing if it was a spring then you melted it completely down before doing blacksmith-y things to it. It'd be really cool to see a timelapse or something!
@galaxia@lemmy.zip Definitely not all of them, but many. Giving a piece of trash a new life is weirdly satisfying.... One of my regular things is making old railroad spikes into heavy-duty bottle openers.
That is a great idea! I am a cosplayer and try to recycle stuff into props sometimes, but I don't think I've completely turned something around into such a new thing. Usually it's upcycling clothes or gluing things together lol.
@galaxia@lemmy.zip There are great opportunities for re-use/re-cycle/etc. in life. I've made use of some in props/cosplay stuff before. It's usually easier when you're creating something from scratch, rather than trying to duplicate an existing screen-used item for example. That's been my experience, anyway... Like ages ago I made up a scifi hand grenade and it was mostly constructed from a broken, modified toy. :)
It has to be melted down and purified, right? It's so shiny.
