Question is why your parents asked.

…It’s habit, I guess? Like, I am legitimately curious what their motivation was in that instance. Why do people specifically seek out McDonalds?

Regardless of whether you like the food, the draw is usually that it's consistent and familiar.

Makes sense. Kinda like how Usain Bolt (IIRC) ate McNuggets before a big race because they’re known and safe.
