There's charities that will take knitted and crochet beanies and distribute them to the homeless. It's a good way to practice different stitches and designs.

I could definitely try that, Iโ€™m not very good at beanies though. Always get off the stitch count somehow or even with a test swatch my gauge is busted ๐Ÿคจ

Find an easy kids pattern. They are quicker. Once you've mastered one, you'll master the rest. I use a safety pin to mark the start of the round.

You can also start with the band first and work your way up rather than the round.
