Hi, I'm ging to visit Cardiff in July, and I have some questions, any help isnhighly appreciated.

  • how safe is Cardiff? I'm gonna arrive at 11 p.m. and there is a 1 km to my Airbnb, is it safe to walk alone at night, or do you recommemd a taxi or something similar?
  • What's the best way to get around? I don't mind walking but would prefer something faster. Is there somewhere I can rent a bike for the week?
  • How predictable is the weather? Is it safe to pack according to the forecast?
  • I love trying local cuisine when travelling. Can you recommend any places to go to?
  • Can you recommand anything to visit besides the tourist attractions I can find online? I'm especially interested in Music, electronics/comouter stuff and History.
  • I assume everyone will understand english? Is it considered rude to just assume and just start speakimg english or should I ask if they speak english first?
  • Any other general tips you want to add?

Cardiff at 11pm can be interesting, exciting or fear inducing... Rather depends which bit and where you are going. I would say it's probably safe to walk 1 km however that really depends on you.

Walking around the centre is the only way to go... There may be bike hire places around but you shouldn't need to do that.

The weather - if it isn't raining it will be now in a minute. Actually yeh follow the weather forecast.

Local cuisine? Lol. Nope. Can't recommend anywhere. Depends what you call local.

Plenty of history around. The national museum is excellent.

Yeh nearly everyone speaks English in Cardiff. Even 1st language Welsh people (rare in Cardiff) will be fluent English speakers (except in north Wales where they might not be, or at least pretend not to be)

General tips - it can rain quite hard for quite long periods of time so be prepared to get wet, however it can also be dry and warm if not hot. Don't drink too much Brain's Dark, you will get a headache.

thanks for your reply

follow up question: what's Brain's Dark, sounds like it's right up my alley ;-)

It's the local version of Guinness.

It's not like Guinness though... Much, much nicer ( admittedly nicer than Guinness is a bit of a low bar, but let's take wins where we can after the 6 nations this year!)

Yes, fair, but Guinness is the most commonly known similar product.

Indeed...

The daughter says "it's not like Guinness in taste or style but it is in Culture" which is fair.

I can see that. I like her characterisation.
