There's a difference between carpet bombing an entire country (also not defensible) and deliberately removing gay people from your population using the legal system.

How many gay people do you think the occupation regime of west Palestine has killed in their genocide?

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Clearly many more. I'm not defending Israel at all. They're clearly war criminals. However they don't execute LGBT people in their own country which is the point of the meme. Iran is specifically trying to irradiate LGBTQ people in their own country. Iran is a theocratic dictatorship and is incapable of being the "good guy" with the current regime.

They do execute lgbt people though. And children and pregnant women, they're executing an entire population. A repressive dictatorship is still better than a genocidal one.

Yes, and carpet bombing is entirely more evil. Iran is the lesser of two evils here. Isn’t that what liberals said we should always strive for? The lesser of two evils?

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Not lesser, just different. The two countries are very different and you can't really draw a sensible comparison. Additionally I would point out that Iran has been supplying weapons, money, and intelligence to Hamas and Hezbollah for years. Have Hamas been a good thing for Gaza?

But let's not forget Yemen. Vastly more people have died in the Yemeni civil war (100s of thousands of civilians) which was started by the houthis, who are an Iranian proxy. They also propped up Bashar al Assad, who used chemical weapons against the Syrian population. They also had a hand in the Sudanese civil war.

So yeah Iran hasn't directly been involved in genocide, but they've been encouraging and funding it for a good while. Not good guys.
