Kind of surprised both that this technology exists (I guess the reflective layer is only reflective at the relevant wavelengths?) and that the industry is still trying to innovate despite the trend to non-physical.
Personally I think the CD has been done dirty, it's a very good consumer-friendly format (even though I kind of wish they had settled on 48kHz because that's basically universally used nowadays). The have that it's between by vinyl nowadays in terms of sales shows how little less actually about the music and more about performance.
