Patty and Charlie Brown are walking down the sidewalk. She looks over at him and says,"You're walking on the wrong side!"
They stop and she continues,"The man is supposed to walk on the side nearest the curb!"
He puts his hands akimbo and asks,"Why?"
They switch walking positions and continue walking. She looks in the windows they are passing and replies,"So the woman can look in the store windows!"

Before automobiles (and indoor plumbing), this used to be the other way around. I heard that the reasoning was so that the woman would be less likely to get hit by poop dumped out of upper story windows.
As crazy is the world is now, I'm glad I live in the present and not in the past.
