Personally I love horror comedy. I just find it so re watchable. Other then that I really enjoy zombie movies and find paranormal likely the spookiest. I bet you can guess how many times I've seen return of the living dead, lol.

Least favorite is likely revenge films or anything shocky just to shock (like the terrifier films). I also really don't like nic cage. He's ostensibly too over the top for me.

Favorite: Cosmic or otherwise mind bending horror where watching is uncomfortable and makes me anxious and I'm trying to figure out what is going on without ever actually finding out more than the superficial explanation. The absolute best tend to have no or extremely few jump scares and any gore makes sense in the context of the setting.

Least favorite: Anything that relies entirely on jump scares or torture. Being startled or grossed out are not scary to me at all, and come across as lazy.

I see horror comedies as primarily comedies and they can have as many jump scares and ridiculous torture and gore that they want to as long as it is played up for comedic purposes.

I'm the same way, some of my favorite mind-bending horror movies are 1408, Grave Encounters, Oculus, and Session 9 (if you're looking for recommendations).

Those 3 movies all high up my favourite horror movies rankings. :)

Loved all four, although Session 9 could have used a few less jump scares.

My faves include Midsommar, The Empty Man, The Void, and Annihilation. Lots more, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

All four are excellent horror movies, I would particularly recommend The Empty Man because it's less well known and it's fun experience.
