Root. No root means its never gonna be my device. I want more buttons back as well.

What do you need root for these days??

Removing unwanted system apps

For anything related to cleaning up the device. Who needs samsung internet? Who needs uninstallable garbage you never use. Perhaps I want to back up my wifi config so when I transfer to a new device I can do so in a manner that doesn't bring old problems with me. What do I need root for? Because I know how to do things that secure my device against the manufacturer.

I have to settle for package disabler pro. At least I can lock off that stupid intrusive AI shit.

I always just used custom ROMs without root

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I've never ran a custom rom that didn't have root.

In my experience it's very optional

Oh sure you can refuse to install it I guess but why would you? Its weird so many people don't understand what a advantage it is to have root access.

And there's even more people who don't understand the dangers. Install the wrong APK or click a fishy link, and your device can be completely fucked without you ever knowing. That's why the AOSP has worked so hard on isolation and ACL.

I've never had that problem. Probably due to my not installing dodgy software.

Whatever reason is fine.
